Invite readers to catholic wedding rehearsal?

My cousin's getting married and is wondering if the readers should be invited to the rehearsal? I don't think they practice their readings at the rehearsal, but we're just wondering what proper etiquette is regarding this.

Re: Invite readers to catholic wedding rehearsal?

  • I'm having a catholic wedding, and I asked the church's secretary who to invite- She told me to invite the readers, but we didn't need to invite the gift bearers. That may be only my church, but if she calls her church, I'm sure they'll have advice to offer! Hope that helps :)
  • I'm not Catholic, but for my first wedding, we invited the soloists and readers to practice at the rehearsal - it also gave us an idea of timing, and them an idea of voice projection (especially the singers).

I love you Missy. Even though you are not smart enough to take online quizzes to find out really important information. ~cew
  • I've been a reader many times and I find I feel more comfortable during the reading if I've gone to the rehearsal because I know when to expect to go up.

I have actually practiced the readings when I've gone and I feel much better when I have.  I'm not one to get nervous or anything but it still helps the feeling of uncertainty.

  • Yes, invite them. Even if they don't practice the actual reading (which they might, I've seen it both ways) they will be told when they stand up and what to do. It's not 100% necessary for them to come if they have a conflict, but definitely give them the opportunity to do so if it will make them feel more comfortable.
  • If your readers are Catholic, they'll know when to go up since it's pretty similar to a regular mass.  If they're not Catholic, they should be at the rehearsal for sure.
