Booking Excursions

We are going to Rivieria Maya in May, I was wondering if any one had experience with booking excursions in advance?  In the past I have always booked my excursions at the resort, however I'm wondering if it is more resonable and cheaper to book prior.

Thoughts?

    Most places, H and I do book several excursions in advance.  A few times, we've received an early booking discount, but the biggest reason we do this is because some have limited availability and we want to make sure we do it.  Also, depending on the area, booking directly through the company providing the excursion will be cheaper than booking through the hotel.

    That being said, we usually only book two or three 'big' excursions in advance which gives us leeway to add things as we feel while we're there.

    We booked a few of our excursions early. The resorts hate it when you do that but you can get things cheaper that way.
