Re: QOTD 2/29

  • I am/was a guidance counselor at a middle school (my position was cut last school year due to the stupid budget) but I still consider myself a guidance counselor.
My undergrad degree is in Psychology and I have a Masters in Professional School Counseling/Guidance & Counseling.....
  • I'm a second year doctoral student in biology. I study neuroscience and hormones in honey bees. I say "student' loosely. I'm a full time, (poorly) paid student who teaches, tutors and works ridiculous hours getting both my research and my advisor's research done.

Oh and unsurprisingly I studied biology and neuroscience as an undergraduate.

  • I was going to school for Urban Landuse Planning and Geographic Information Systems... but I ended up landing an amazing job before I could graduate. I currently work for the university I was going to school at as a specialst clerk and grant accountant. Fortunately, my tuition is now free since I'm employed by the university, and I'll eventually finish up my last 18 credits within the next couple years.

  • @Trawas01:  I know exactly what you're talking about!  I'm a 5th year Ph.D. student in Pharmacology.  I have an undergrad degree in neuroscience too, so my research is focused around neuropharmacology, more specifically dopamine neurons in the midbrain.  I'm hoping to defend this time next year and then get a real job LOL!

  • Since you asked I will tell :)

My title is Real Property Infomation Systems Technician.  What I really do is help to maintain a database for the local Real Property assessors in the county.  The other big thing that I do is legal research which can be fun sometimes.  My job can be very diverse.

I have my degree in Computer Science but it took me a job at Victoria's Secret, a telemarketing firm, a technical recruiting job, and a legal secretary job after gradutation to end up where I am now.  I figured that my degree was going to go to waste but I guess not.  :)

  • Wow this thread makes me feel like an underachiever haha!  Just kidding.  I didn't finish my degree (which was in communications) due to health reasons many years ago and I haven't felt like I was in a good financial place to go back.  Plus I'm just not sure I would want to stick with my comm plan.  It seems to have become the degree for the undecided.

I currently manage a bar though and it pays the bills very well.  I've been in search of a day job so hopefully after the wedding I can quit bartending or at least cut it way down.  I'd love to just manage and not have to bartend myself.  Trying to get my foot in the door at a bank because I know they offer good benefits and I have over 10 years of customer service/cash handling experience.  Just missed a call from human resources at one of the banks this morning (slept right through it! closed the bar last night) so can't wait for them to call me again later.

  • I started working for my dad right after high school and while I was in my first year of college.  The company started to demand a lot of my time since it was a new launch and I eventually quit school and became co-owner.  We are now in our 9th year and I am the Operations Officer.  Our business is in the IT field and we buy and sell networking and server equipment.  After a lot of hard work and long, long hours, it is starting to pay off really well and I love what I do.

Feeling a bit like an under-acheiver, myself, after reading these posts! I'm a stay-home mom of a third-grader. Unfortunately, I've had an over-abundance of health issues that prevent me from doing a lot of types of work. However, I volunteer at my child's school as a reading and math "tutor", as well as at the public library and the hospital. Previously, I worked for the library as a circulation assistant. I went to college for advertising/ public relations, as well as art history. I didn't finish, having had my child, and have not thought to return both for monetary and health reasons. Plus, I'm not sure what area I'd want to study, since so many seem to be inviable in today's economy.

  • I am currently a Court Recorder (not the same as a court reporter). I honestly was never interested in law, but just sort of fell in to it a few years ago when I became a Legal Secretary at my last job. My job now (mainly) is to manage the audio/video recording system at the courthouse. It has it's boring moments, but sometimes we get really interesting trials and cases that I get to watch.

I went to three different colleges, for three different things and still couldn't decide what I really wanted to do. So after 3 1/2 years of college I ended up with an Associate's Degree in General Studies because I had accumulated so many credits. If I ever really figure out what I want to do as a career maybe I'll go back, but I've always been more passionate about having a family than having a "career".

Some of you ladies are so impressive!

  • I am a Lead Teacher of a Head Start Program.  I went to school for Early Child Ed and have my masters in literacy.   I enjoy the kids but am getting bogged down with all the requirements and paper work.  I am seriously considering a job change I will hopefully be able to really look in to over the summer when the year is over and the only 'job' I will have will be planning the wedding.

  • I'm a school psychologist at a PreK-8th grade building in an urban district. My BA was in Psychology, and my MA/AC is in School Psychology.
  • The short answer is, I'm a therapist.

The long answer is that I have a bachelor's degree, a master's degree, and a state license in social work, and I currently work doing diagnostic evaluations and new patient orientation for a very large county mental health clinic.

  • I love this post... I like seeing what everyone does!

I am currently in my third year of nursing school. I graduate April 27, 2013 (can you tell I am counting down the days??). When it is all said and done I will have my BSN. And I have NO idea what I want to do with it. Thank goodness I have so many options, and I am just praying that something will speak to me in one of my clinicals or classes and I'll figure out what I want to do.

  • I am a substitute teacher.  I graduated college with a degree is history and secondary education.

  • I run a Day Care out of my home with my mom (I feel like I've mentioned this in at least my last 3 posts for one reason or another HAHA!) and I absolutely love it. It's really long days full of poopy diapers and temper tantrums but I honestly couldn't ask for a better group of kids and all my parents are so amazing.
I just have my Associates in Liberal Arts but I got an Early Childhood Development Certificate from my local College.

  • I'm an RN for 2 years now. I obviously studied nursing In college! I'd love to go back and get my MSN someday, since what drew me to the career was learning. I love the knowledge base I have, but patient care gets crazy sometimes.
