I'm about to rip all of my skin off (NEY MD?)

Someone pleeeeeease help me.  For a few days now my skin has been so incredibly itchy.  Ok it actually started a few weeks ago but only on my upper inside left arm.  Now though it's my stomach, chest, inside of both upper arms, lower back, back of both of my legs.  We haven't changed our laundry detergent, I'm using the same body wash, & it doesn't seem dry at all.  As in it's not flaky or anything but even so I've been using lotion thinking it HAD to be dry skin because I can't for the life of me figure out what is going on here.  The lotion hasn't been working & I seriously don't know what to do.  It actually woke up me up in the middle of the night it gets so bad.  

Anyone have any suggestions on WTF is wrong with me and/or remedies for how to get it to stop????

    If you look SUPER SUPER close, can you see any little red lines/dots? A few years ago I somehow got scabies. Look it up. It was so bad. I itched like crazy, and it just came on so quickly.

    Do you have any bumps or a rash where it's itching?

    This has happened to me twice.  Both times my skin looked like I had a million mosquito bites, but that's not what it was.  Neither time had I changed anything in my lifestyle to cause it.  Sometimes allergic reactions just happen.  It's called dermatitis (or at least that's what my doctor said it was) and I had to get a shot of cortisone and get a cream to apply to my skin until it was gone. 

    I would go to the doctor if it's bothering you.

    Is there an actual rash or is it just itchy? If there is a rash, what does it look like? Are you using a soft soap like Cetaphil followed by a thick moisturizer?

    You can try hydro cortisone cream to relieve the itching temporarily.

    Other than being red from scratching it looks completely normal from what I can tell.

    I would first take benedryl. Then tell us what it looks like. Does it burn at all?

    I use St. Ive's Oatmeal & Shea butter body wash & have been using Johnson's body lotion (it's a pink tube)

    Try an antihistamine like Claritin or Zyrtec then take Benadryl at night. You can also use topical Benadryl. If it goes on for another 48 hours or so, however, I'd go see a doctor or NP.

    Also check to make sure your body wash and lotion don't have alcohol in them -- a lot do.

    Feel better! I've had that kinda feeling on my face when I used a facewash that was too strong. Kinda makes you feel crazy.

    RDR, this is totally unhelpful, butI used to have the same problem.  Turned out to be celiac.  Now it only pops up when I eat gluten.

    Maybe you triggered celiac?  1 in 112 people in the world have it and most don't even know it.  :)

    Yup, I would try an antihistamine. My skin is itchier when I don't take my claritin every day. Seriously.

    You can also try using fragance free products on your body and a fragance free detergent.

    Just b/c you've never had allergies or sensitive skin before doesn't mean you haven't developed them all of a sudden! Try a couple suggestions from here and if they don't help, talk to your doc.

    I randomly developed eczema while I was in college.  I had to get rid of everything scented, change my detergents and dryer sheets, everything!  it just came on out of nowhere.  it could be a lot of things, but an antihistamine is your best bet right now...  that and wash with a gentle, non-fragrance soap and put on a non-fragrance lotion.  and the hydrocort-cream, except if you use it too much I think it can scar ( or is that a different cream?? feel free to correct me! )

    I also vote for an antihistamine. You can use a topical anti-itch cream or gel. I like Benadryl gel, but hydrocortizone is also often the answer in dermatology. Personally, I think the Benadryl gel stops the itching better, but cortizone often helps healing better.

    If it doesn't go away soon, go to the doctor.

    ETA: My doctor friend says there isn't much difference between antihistamines, so if Benadryl knocks you out (Zyrtec does that to me), try Claritin.

    You gals are the best!!  I have no idea if this will make a difference, but I threw away my loofah this morning.  I figured it can't hurt?  Right now I'm feeling ok, it's obviously worse when I think about it (mind over matter!!).  

    Coco, I've actually had eczema since 2nd grade!  I have some kind of prescription cream at home.  My flare-ups happen mostly in the winter & mostly on my feet & are just small spots.  This is definitely not that.  I almost wish it was because then I would know exactly what to do for it. 

    Desert & Leia, Claritin is OTC now right?  I'm going to stop at Duane Reade to get that & the hydrocortisone on my way to meet Yaga later.  I can't imagine scratching like a lunatic is helping at all but I really can't help myself. 

    Peek & Ahstillwell, I actually know nothing about Celiac's so I will do a little research. How do they test for it?

    Something similar happened to me last winter! It turned out to be a developed allergy to tomatoes! I googled it and it's not super uncommon. You should go for an allergy scratch test.
