Uncheck...Back to the Drawing Board

I have to erase the check mark beside getting my BM dresses.

I wanted them to feel like they included in the choice so I basically had them choose the dress.  The dress they chose was alright but didn't make me swoon.  Still all I asked for was that the color/hue be Chocolate.  So we chose  the color from the swatch closest to the Chocolate hue I wanted.  I should have paid attention to the disclaimer by the store that said the swatch color may differ from the actual color received due to the material of the dress chosen.  Ummm...hmmm.  WARNING, WARNING.   Also, all sales are final. No refunds/exchanges.

Well when one of my BMs picked up her gown she told me I was not going to be happy. The color was totally off from the Chocolate I wanted.  Ugh!  I saw the gown and agreed but decided to deal with it.  Money was spent and that was that.  Oh well, right?

Fast forward, the same BM that showed me the gown a while back told me last week that she can't take it anymore and hates the color.  It's the color of nude stockings manufacturers give to AA women.  UGH!!   I asked my other two BMs their real feelings and one of them also confessed she wasn't fond of the color either.   These two said they wanted to purchase another gown.  The last BM said "hayle no".  LOL!

So to be fair, I told them in appreciation for their willingness to buy another gown I would purchase their shoes and pay to have their makeup professionally done.  The last BM who said she couldn't buy another gown, I offered to pay for hers.  She is a good friend and I understand her dilemma.

Sigh...so back to the drawing board and I will not compromise on the dress or color.

Re: Uncheck...Back to the Drawing Board

  • Sorry to hear this! I was just watching say yes to the bridesmaid dress today and this happened with a bride on there where the swatch didn't exactly match the dresses when they came in. She was expecting a gray undertone and the dress was actually purple. In the end she made it work but I could definitely understand where you are coming from. Is there anyway you could dye dress? And I don't know where you got the dress from but I would still try returning them or exchanging them, it never hurts to ask sounding as devasted as possible of course. Also try selling the dresses and maybe you could find dresses for the price that you sold these dresses for. Good luck! Hope things work out!

  • @rowenac82 - The dresses were bought from DB.  They are pretty firm on you bought it, you keep it.  I am considering trying to sell their gowns on Recycled Bride/Tradesey or on a similar site.

  • Sorry to hear that. Yeah, maybe you can recoup the money on Recycled Bride or even eBay. My girls got their dresses at Alfred Angelo. Maybe take a look at their color swatch to see if their color is closer to what you need? It'll all work out in the end. I'll send positive thoughts your way.

  • Ok, I did some digging around online and it seems like DB would do an exchange, not a return. If you feel its worth the hassle, I would seriously consider calling and see about having the dresses exchanged for the same dress in the color that you want.

    Thanks ladies.

Ok - I will call DB and see what they say but I don't have high hopes based on some of the reviews I have read and from what I saw and heard while at the store.

  • Am sorry about this. I agree with Ro...try and exchange. Be firm. They always have policies, but they are almost always changeable. It's their fault they didn't deliver the product you expected from their swatches. I wish you the best of luck;)

    </div><div>LOL...that bad huh? </div><div>
</div><div>From what I read online..it has to be the same store. But I agree with others just be firm and make it seem like it was their fault. Just keep in mind that the costumer is always right. You didn't get the product you were expecting, you aren't happy, you are a bride, you are bringing them business, not asking for money back, just asking for the color you thought the dress was going to be!!! And always ask for the manager if an associate isn't giving you the results you are looking for. </div>

  • AWWWW soo sorry to hear that and hopefully you can find what you want and be able to sell them and get some of the money back GL

    Lilypie - H1jI

    Daisypath - MFL5

  • @nursing2u - Here's the dress they chose.  The color I wanted was Truffle or a dark Brown similar to the color she is wearing in the pic.

Below is close to the color of the dress we received except the dress color is duller.  See how it is off?

  • Thanks everyone for all of your suggestions.  I had heard about the Bowie DB before I went so shame on me.  I dont' know if I have the energy to deal with them but I do see that the dress is still offered in the stores and at the same price.  So maybe.
