June 2012 Weddings

for those who are having their ceremony and reception at the same place

What are you doing for your pictures? Are you having a first look? Or are you waiting until after the ceremony to do pictures? I am getting confused by this. I am worried I won't get enough special pictures of the two of us.

Re: for those who are having their ceremony and reception at the same place

  • We are having a cocktail hour with heavy apps and doing the pictures then.
  • We are doing a first look at all the pictures we can possibly do before the ceremony. We are having the reception immediately following the ceremony... literally the food will be ready as the guests walk up from the ceremony. FI and I will be doing some more photos of just the two of us during the magic hour, but we hope to have most done before the ceremony.

  • What is a Magic Hour?
  • I've never heard of a Magic Hour...?

  • My understanding is that, It's the time when the sunset and the lighting is "magical"  for pictures :) Your photographer would know the exact time for that.

Yep. And you can google it and put in your location and it will tell you the time on your wedding date for magic hour photos. In MN on 06.30.12 the magic hour is 8:08PM-9:08 PM :)

Ditto this. We also hope to do the same as Chelsea and get photos with the sunset.
  • We are doing first look photos, and as many others as we can knock out of the way before the ceremony.  We'll probably do some final ones during the cocktail hour, but ideally we'll be all done and aside from a few perfect photo ops during the night, we'll be able to relax and enjoy our time with our guests!

  • We are doing a first look and getting most photos out of the way before the ceremony and then just doing a few during cocktail hour. Magic hour refers to the hour before sunset (which it's really about 45 minutes before and 15 minutes after) when there is a yellow halo glow. There is also a magic hour before sunrise. You see it in movies a lot. It's gorgeous but the weather has to be perfect.

  • We are doing our pics during the cocktail hour immediately following the ceremony. I was considering doing a first look but FI insisted that the first time he wanted to see me was walking down the aisle. :)

  • We're doing a first look and getting most of our pictures done then. We also have a brief half hour between ceremony and when the food comes out when we'll do a few more with family.
  • Originally we were planning on doing the pics during cocktail hour, but when we started planning the cocktail hour with our venue, we decided we didn't want to miss it and wanted to spend more time with our guests (we also didn't think one hour would be enough time for pictures).  We are now doing almost all of our pictures, including a first look, before the ceremony.

  • FI and I agreed on first look photos. So we will do some photos before the ceremony and some after the ceremony during cocktail hour. We might also sneak away during the night to get some night time photos with sparklers. =)

We will be doing the first look photos, and will do more during cocktail hour if necesary. We're hoping to get them all done before so we can enjoy our cocktail hour though :)

  • We're doing a first look and then as many photos as we can before the ceremony.  The girls will finish up with pictures 1 hour before the ceremony starts. We plan to have the guys and family members continue to take pictures until about 30 minutes before the ceremony.  FI and I plan to take some sunset pictures on the beach.  Hopefully we can have all pictures done before the ceremony...

    This.

  • We're doing the first look and some bridal party pics before the ceremony at 4pm. Then we'll do a few more after since we are not having dinner until 6pm. I also agree with the ladies doing the "magic hour" photos. Our wedding & reception are at a golf course on the lake and I definitely want a photo op by the water with the sunset! =)

  • FI and I will be doing a first look as well.  Prior to that, the photographer will get me with my girls and FI with his guys.  Following the ceremony, during the cocktail hour, we'll do BP and family shots.
  • We're doing a first look too, gotta take advantage of the beautiful venue during the afternoon.  We'll wrap pictures up during the cocktail hour, but are hoping to finish photos and join our guests there.

  • I like the idea of first look but cannot bring myself to move away from not seeing each other before the ceremony.  Totally old fashioned - I know!
  • We're doing first look photos and family photos before the ceremony as well. And, of course, some sunset pics on the beach in front of the lake! We plan to be hanging with our guests pretty much the entire time, so I want almost all "posed" photos done before! :-)

  • Definitely don't want to see him at all before the ceremony. So we will do pictures right after we do the receiving line. Then we will be sneaking back out during the "magic hour."

  • We are pretty much doing the same as everyone here. First look and photos before the wedding, then a few during cocktail hour. The photographer will also steal us away for some other special shots during the reception :)

  • FI insisted on waiting until I walk down the aisle so no first look for us. We are skipping the receiving line and doing pictures during the cocktail hour. Because we have a photography team, one guy will be with the ladies and the other with the guys - I think that will save alot of time.

  • We're doing all family and twosome pictures BEFORE the wedding and the bridal party pictures after, during cocktail hour.
  • We are doing the photos we can without each other and with our BP members and then during our cocktail hour we will take all together pictures.

  • We are doing a first look and all WP photos and immediate family photos before the ceremony.  During cocktail hour we'll do pictures with the grandparents and such.  There is also a waterfall on the golf course that they will take us out in a golf cart to but only after the ceremony so the golfers are all basically off the course.
    Anniversary
  • We are not doing first look pics.  We will take pics during cocktail hour.

Chelsea, what exactly do you google to find out the magic hour?
  • We are not doing a first look. We'll get what WP pics we can before. While we're doing pictures, the guests are invited to partake in a group dance lesson. Several of my friends are ballroom dance instructors and have offered their services. The bar will also be open and food will be available. No offical cocktail hour.
  • We are having a first look. We will be doing some family pictures at the start of the cocktail hour but with ou pictures and the wedding party pictures out of the way it shouldn't take long.
