FI's Last Name in Monogram?

Alright, I know its "not right"  to have the future last name of the couple in a monogram placed on anything before the day of the wedding, such as invitations.  What is this about?  Is it bad etiquette or just a superstition that its bad luck?  I'm trying to make a monogram but I'm struggling because M&T is the name of a bank, so I'd like to have FI's last initial in the middle instead of "&".  I've played around with some that say "Michelle & Thomas" but I just found out he would prefer it to say "Tom" which looks really unbalanced because my name is almost 3 times longer.

Any advice or details on this last initial business would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance ladies.

    I know it's not proper etiquette, but I'm using his last name as the center initial in the monogram. I looked at several invitation samples online before designing my own and many of them used the groom's initial. 

    I'm usually pretty insistent on proper etiquette, but I don't think any of our family/friends will notice/mind the faux pas. If your family and friends are sticklers on following etiquette guidelines, then I would suggest doing as you have so far and avoiding the use of his last initial.

    I never even knew this was a rule! Everything that I've seen has had the groom's last initial as the center initial.

    I don't think anyone will care, i see knotties who are well known around here have their monogram the last name of their fi if that is going to be the family name.

    All I know is the girls on the DIY board are saying it is poor etiquette.  I don't know if it is superstitious or what.  I am using his initial in my monogram and I guess I just didn't care and like kimeiten said my family probably won't even notice lol!

    Thanks for the advice ladies!  I think I'm going to post it on the etiquette board too to try to figure out if its bad etiquette (and why) or just bad luck.
