  FI and I went a couple of summers ago and stayed in Port Clinton, which is the city on the mainland by Put-In Bay Island. We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express there.  But we went to the island every day and saw a lot of the hotels and have heard things other people say and some of the good ones on the island seem to be Put In Bay Resort/Confrence Center, Bay Lodging Resort and Commodore Resort.  There's also condo's to rent but I don't know anything about that.
  
  In terms of restaraunts and bars we liked Mama Mias and Put-In Bay Brewing Co. that was FI's favorite, they have the best guiness onion soup ever! yum!
  
  The whole island is filled with bars all in walking distance if you stay in the downtown area, but there's golf cart vendors too and golf carts alone are fun! haha
  
  I don't know when you're going but they do water sport rentals too which is always fun.  There's also a butterfly house thing and a winery (maybe 2?)!

  I have a house on the Island, any questions, just let me know!  You can either stay at Port Clinton or on the Island itself.  If you stay in Port Clinton, the only place I suggest is Mr Eds Commodore Perry.  That's the really only decent hotel in that area.  The thing about staying on the island is most hotels require you rent a room for two nights.
  
  IMO the best hotels on the island are Mr Eds Commodore Perry, PIB Resort and Villas, Edgewater and my personal fav is the Island Club.  There are always big groups that stay there and it's just a fun party.  Plus, there are tons of condos or houses you can rent.  Just make sure whatever you pick, you get to see pics of it at least. 
  
  The most popular bars on the island are the main strip - Mr Eds, Beer Barrel, Frosty's and Roundhouse.  But you should def check out the winery if you can.  So many people get wasted though because they go to the winery first and ruin themselves for the rest of the day.  And the winery is a little further out.  If you go any further that outside the strip, you'll need a cab or a golf cart.  Golf cart is fun if you want to explore the island, but the cops have gotten pretty watchful for drunk drivers on the golf cart. 

  
  

  They actually have a weekend in the summer that is the bachelorette/bachelor party weekend when they have tons of them over there.  I'd pick another weekend myself, so it's more about me!  LOL!  They have added more stuff over the past two years on the island to make it more family friendly and have more activities but it hasn't changed the island all that much.  It is just one huge party.  My FI won't go over there, he just doesn't like how crazy it gets.   Anyways, I just love it on the island.  It is always so much fun.  Did you know they call it the Key West of the North?

  OMG, we love put in bay, my fiance and I always go with a group of friends every christmas in july.  We got engaged at the winery on put in bay.  Camping there is always super fun.  They aren't too picky, plus is you get a cliff site the sunsets are beutiful!!!

  I have a place in Port Clinton, and I agree if you want to save some money stay at Commodore Perry's (Mr. Ed's). It's within walking distance of the ferry, decent hotel, and you won't have to pay inflated Island prices for the hotels.  Have fun!!  The island is basically bach party central
