Parent issues?

Re: Parent issues?

  • I love this conversation I hear myself in some of these posts.  My favorite is my MIL (who I love and get along with, but is not paying, which is totally ok)... says... "I just have one request..."  But she has said this about a few different things.  I love that she thinks she only has one request.

You can still involve the mother in law and then if she has an idea you like when you present it to your mother you can say it was your idea.... thats one way to get around it.

On the other hand, honesty is the best policy and you should clear the air with your mom before things get too out of hand. Good Luck!!!
  • Be glad it is only the mothers and mother in laws, how about having drama with the sister in laws, trying to stop the wedding form every corner.
  • Sadly, I haven't even told my FMIL the place or date yet. LOL...

She hasn't asked and is not contributing. She'll get an invite in the mail.

  • if both parties are paying, they technically have a little bit of say so. however, i can see where your mom might get offended if your parents are footing the bill and soon to be mother in law is offering her two cents left and right. i know that now the couple usually pays for the majority of wedding related things, in which case you could listen to their advice, but at the end of the day you get to make the final decision.

i agree with whoever said to give each mom specific tasks- this might help eleviate the tension since each mom will have their own thing to work on.

i wish i were in your shoes, though- my parents are completely absent from helping plan my wedding! my fiance and i are paying for most of the things, and his parents are also chipping in a good bit. it seems my parents fight me on everything and aren't excited at all (you would think they would be since i am their only daughter!!) such is life, i guess.
  • Stay focused on what you and your fiance want, just understand if the mother's are starting now, they are not going to stop.  And remember the most important thing, your wedding is about YOU and YOUR FIANCE.  Good luck.
