What's your wedding style?

Do you girls have a theme? Colors? Or an idea for the overall feel of your wedding?

If so, what items and decorations are you using to get it across?

Re: What's your wedding style?

  • We don't have a theme. I have never really like over the top theme weddings, seemed to high school prom to me.

Our wedding colors are three different shades of blue and an accent of silver. Our over all feel is kind of rustic. Our ceremony and reception will take place in the same location. The place where we are having it is an old warehouse that has been converted into an art center that have 3 different event rooms that can be rented out.

  • We're doing a 1920's theme with colors Red/Black/White

To pull in the theme we're having the ceremony/reception at the old Henry Ford Model T plant that has been turned into a museum (they have a bunch of Model T cars on display!). We're also going to encourage guests to dress to the era. The groom/groomsmen will be wearing fedoras (Groom just bought a pinstripe suit), the BMs will be wearing long pearl necklaces and probably a headpiece (TBD). I'm a graphic designer, so I will be pulling in a lot of visual cues, using Art Deco design motifs on all my paper items.

We've hired a dance instructor to come in right after dinner and they're going to teach all the guests how to do the Lindy Hop & The Charleston. Obviously the music for at least the first part of the evening will be jazz and other era-appropriate music to go with the dinner and dancing.

For the table themes we're calling out influential figures of the 1920's and we'll have a brief little blurb about each person at the table (Example: Charlie Chaplin, Coco Chanel, Babe Ruth, Charles Lindburgh, Al Capone etc.)

Not really sure how else we're going to tie it all together. I would like to have a prop table with a bunch of random 1920's costume items available for guests but I don't know if it will ultimately be in our budget.

  • We're going for a classic, elegant wedding with a 1930s vibe. We're getting married shortly after the holidays so our colors are going to be red and gold. Also, red is my favorite color and gold just fit. We're going to try to incorporate small touches from the 1930s. My e-ring and band are circa 1930s. We also want to pull in elements from our favorite movie 'It Happened One Night" (1934). A lot of pearl accents, rich, warm colors. Very classic.
  • Our wedding is very much about me (he wanted this) and my background in French History.  We have used black and white solids and damasks throughout with pops of clover green.   We are doing very lush/luxury florals in whites, greens and blacks (yeah,  I said black flowers).  All of the linens are either textured or alecon lace including my dress.

I am going for that modern, crisp French countryside feel.. if that makes sense.

    My inspiration:

  • We are doing a plum purple color and a turqiouse for our colors with touches of either black or silver not sure yet. In my mind I am thinking a Simply Elegant theme.

  • We don't really have a theme but we're going for a natural kind of feel with rustic touches- moss and birch bark ring bearer's pillow, dried flowers for the bouquets, bouts made from real hops, using candles and lanterns and the like. Our colors are yellow, green, and red- it's an August wedding and yellow and green are summery to me and the red is for luck! We met at summer camp so the woods in upstate NY have become my inspiration. Even though there's going to be formal attire and no campfires, our reception is in a historical hall in a sleepy sort of village only an hour from NYC. And our church is right across the street so no limos- just walk across the village green!

  • My theme has turned into "A Peacock in a Birch Tree Forest."  FI and I agreed to peacock invitations.  The colors are purple, teal, navy and pink.  Pink because that is my favorite color.  Then we chose the cake.  It is designed as a birch tree.

I have peacock feathers on my cocktail napkins, and am using birch bark wrapped vases for the certerpieces.  The flowers are going to be pink alstromedia and roses with some neon green and purple flowers.

The bridesmaid dresses were going to by teal, but FI didn't like that, so now they are going to be purple.

  • We don't really have a "style" or a "theme" (I never really understood that), but FI and I are getting married in October, so I guess our theme would be fall? Our main colors are dark red, black, and white, but we're going to add some splashes of fall colors in the bouquets and the invitations and everything (add some yellows, dark oranges, and dark greens to the mixture). We still have quite a ways to go with planning, so we don't have any specific ideas picked out yet. I do have some ideas on my pinterest board under "Fall Wedding". :)

  • we didn't have a theme or anything.
i LOVE color though(obviously, look at the rings..) so the BMs wore purple and carried orange flowers- those were our main colors. but i pulled a rainbow of colors in wherever i could- my bouquet was purple, orange, hot pink, and bright yellow; our guestbook was thumbprint people(with a rainbow inkpad color wheel), each table had a color instead of a number(your place card was green, you find the table with a bowl of green candy on it) etc.

i was scared that it wouldn't turn out well, but i think it was beautiful.

  • My FI has been very involved in the planning so we have a very interesting style. We're doing a modern, romantic, whimsical theme with touches of Spiderman! He's a huge Spiderman fan so we're incorporating that into the wedding. The invitations will most likely be little comic books designed by my sister, the boys will have shiny black converse with spiderman decals, the tables will be named after different characters from the Spiderman Universe, our second dance will be to Michael Buble's version of the Spiderman theme song, etc. There are so many ideas we're working on, he's very excited!

Heroeswearbrown, that was one of the first movies FH showed me. He's a huge movie buff and was very excited me watching it. It's a lovely movie.
  • We had no theme.  Our colors were purple and blue - seen in our BP attire, flowers, napkins, centerpieces, escort cards, cake accents, invitations... I think that was pretty much it.  We had several heart accents throughout the wedding b/c one of our GM picked out a wedding-ware pattern for us (which I loved) that was two interlinking hearts - so it was on our toasting flutes, cake cutting set, cake topper, and then I worked it into the invitations and escort cards as well.

Our goal was just to have a fun, classy event that was very "us" - which we succeeded in; from our photo-booth style STDs (complete with goofy faces) to our ridiculous BP dance, to the ice cream sundae bar.  I didn't want frills - I'm not into junk sitting all over the place so themed weddings always just seem too over the top and cluttered to me.  I like clean lines and simplicity, which was mirrored in my flower arrangements, cake, etc.
  • No real theme despite the fact that my mother thinks we should. Just because the wedding is at a vineyard and we are having a pasta bar does not mean I have to have an italian theme or wine colored theme. Wedding is in June and I am doing pink and green
  • Our colors are mainly reds with gold & silver accents. But if we had to pick one, we're doing Asian Sunsets, so other colors are pale pink and light orange. I'm folding 1000 paper cranes in tons of colors (but mainly the warm ones) and are doing tissue hanging balls. The tables will have lots of candles for a more initmate setting. :)

  • i guess you could call ours rustic or "country".  Colors are a light pink, brown, and white.  We are just using fake flowers and mason jars that we use to can fruit and stuff (obviously they are clean).  Other than that we are just having a wedding with no theme I guess.  Other than my dress, we are just having a VERY casual wedding.
  • We're doing a beachy theme (not too much) with our colors being Iris and a pale green.  We're incorporating starfish & sanddollars in a small way - by using them as aisle runners for the ceremony (starfish) and as escort cards for the reception.  But that's about the extent of the theme - except for the fact that the ceremony will be on the beach.  Our venue is providing the centerpieces so they'll be fairly simple hurricane classes with candles.

I'm DIY these starfish/raffia for our aisle chairs only.  All other chairs will have a lavender sash.

This is our reception venue w/ hanging lanters.  :)

    Escort cards w/ table assignments.

<div>I love that era, and wish we could pull it off. But instead we want a vintage feel to our wedding and also a feel of a mediterranean wildflower garden. We are getting married in an apple orchard that is at our venue and the reception will be inside. I wish we could have the whole wedding outside, but my family doesn't think that's a good idea and they don't think it would feel like a real wedding. I'm kind of disappointed. </div>

I'm fighting quite hard with my mother not to have a full-fledged theme wedding.  She wants costumes, the whole nine yards, with my nerdery on full display. *eye roll*

We're going for a more rustic feel instead, at least for our location.  Our venue is a mountain lodge, and we're keeping the centerpieces more woodsy than floral.  But we're dressing formally, with tuxes for the guys, long chiffon for the girls, and an elegant gown for me.  And we'll be finding a few smaller places to highlight our geekdom instead.  (Probably a custom cake topper, with ourselves as hero and heroine of a favorite video game, a romantic song from another obscure old favorite game as a processional, and maybe even drinking horns instead of champagne flutes for the two of us.)

  • We are having an upscale country wedding haha if that makes any sense! We are getting outside at a Ranch, the dance hall is where our reception will be. My grandmother is DETERMINED to make it classy. We are renting a white arbor and dressing it with tulle and wedding bells. Our colors are silver and Royal blue.

  • No theme here, but since my wedding was in April it was more springy.

My main color was the DB watermelon but I had bright yellow and bright green accents. The BM's wore the watermelon dresses but carried bright yellow and green bouquets it was so pretty! My MIL and DH's aunt made a lot of really cool table decorations in pinks, yellows, and greens.
My cake was very simple with white frosting and bright pink bow and ribbon. I wasn't certain how everything would look or turn out but it ended up being great!

Our wedding is on the Beach... so OBVIOUSLY a beachy/airy vibe.... but since it will be in Hawaii, and our reception is here, in Ohio when we get back, we are having a Classy Hawaiian/LUAU type theme.....Oh yeah, and our colors are going to be BRIGHT teal, pink and orange...

I don't think we really had a theme. Our colors were 'sunshine' yellow and a very pale green. We got married in August, and I couldnt believe how much I saw these color combinations leading up to our wedding.

My goal was to keep everything classic and timeless, but with a touch of bling, since that is just me. I'm also known to 'go big or go home'. I really got into the monograms and customizing of different things like our aisle runner, napkins, menus, favors, etc. I think the stationer that we worked with really got me into that because everything on her site, I had to have some version of.

The ballroom where our reception was held was perfect with the huge chandeliers,  but I don't really think I went overboard with the decor, but I was really big on the food being yummy and plentiful as well as having a huge open bar selection for our guests to enjoy.

That is so cool that yours is in an orchard! We found our venue by pure chance and it ended up working out PERFECTLY for us, but an apple orchard would have been sweet!

Before we found our venue, our plan was just to have a backyard wedding. A wedding can be whatever you want, so your family is wrong! Would it be possible to split the reception so some aspects are still outside? Seems tragic that such a cool venue wouldn't be utilized more!

  • Our colors are purple and green which will be brought in through a lot of natural elements - lavender and other herbs, moss, etc. We're also trying to have a vintage vibe while not staying true to one specific era and incorporate bicycles.

That sounds more complicated than it really is though. For me it is more about having cohesive elements than an actual theme.

I know! At least our cocktail hour is outside.... but at this venue the dinner aspect has to be indoors. I'm sure we could find a spot to have it outside, but I don't think the venue would allow it. We originally wanted to get married at an arboretum that had beautiful wildflower gardens but no one liked the idea besides me. My FI loved it but then he got too worried about what would happen if it rained and so on. Would have been beautiful... Oh well. He just keeps telling me that it doesn't matter where we get married, it will be perfect. And he is right.. I just had a certain idea of how I thought our wedding would be.

  • Our colors are hot pink, black, white, and silver. Our "theme" if that's what you want to call it is modern elegance. We are keeping it classy yet still our style with modern touches. Going almost non traditional with the ceremony.
  • we are using the Kentucky Derby as our inspiration/ theme, we are getting married on 5/5/2012 derby day.  I am going to wear a big hat and encourage our guests to do the same. Our favors are chocolate horseshoes and mint julep glasses from this years race.  our colors are going to be primaraliy blue and green but I may carry a large bouquet of red roses as the derby is the run for the roses race.

  • The wedding  theme always hard to say. Do you shop for the wedding dress?
Maybe, you can shop the wedding dress first, and then depend on your wedding dress and the bridesmaid dress, and your wedding venue, to decide a wedding theme style.
  • We don't really have a theme. when I describe the style to vendors I say "hollywood glam meets vintage chic"

Our colors are champagne and blush, with gold accents.

I am doing blush linens, gold chivari chairs, and mercury glass centerpieces.
Lots of lush garden party esque stuff. More "soft glamour" than hard lines and sleek stuff.

  • We're having a cherry blossom theme. I have a huge cherry blossom tattoo on my back and it's the inspiration for the wedding because of its meaning. Our colors are pink and brown. Since cherry blossom centerpieces are REALLLLYY expensive, my florist & I improvised and are using alstromeria (kind of similar looking) with curly willow. I found really nice manzanilla centerpieces with orchids that go nicely with the  other centerpieces so I might do half & half.  The cake has cherry blossoms on it as well. I didn't want to go overboard so I'm stopping there.

I also want to incorporate FI's love of comic books and batman in particular somehow, so the groomsman will wear superhero tee shirts under their tuxes for pictures and I have it in the works to rent the batmobile for a few hours. This guy in NJ has replicas that are driveable.. I can't wait to see FI's face when he sees that bad boy. I might also surpise him with a grooms cake. I was going to do the batmobile, but it was alot of money. Maybe I will just do the bat symbol. That's TBD.
