The navy is what DD fiance is in. If he scored pretty high on the test to get in he should get whatever job he wants. If he stays away from the medical field they staty out of most the major fighting too. Although this is exactly what he is ( medical corpsman) and he loves it. Other than the basic training so far they have been able to talk and see each other pretty frequently.

You're a good wife/woman/person CW. Encouraging your H to get his dreams even though it may cause some uncomfort is such a great trait.

Wow @ the Navy. Thank him for his service for me. You'll be okay: take advantage of other Navy spouses. Will he see any combat?

Aw, CW. I don't blame you for your concern/apprehension. I think the positive thing about that though is that it should be fairly easy to find a group of women local to you who are experiencing the same thing. And you know we'll be around to keep you entertained/distracted.

wow...i hope it's a good move for both of you.

Bmom, there's no guarantee that he wont, but it's not likely.
wzz-that's one reason I'm for it. Those little white uniforms are to die for. I was telling him how much I loved them and he was like "you know they don't wear that one all the time right? and it's not likely that I can tell my Officer in Command 'I'm sorry sir, but my wife wants me to wear the white one all the time, sir!'"

Yay for #1!

And good luck on #2, for both you and Mr CW. Deployments are certainly hard, but you are a strong chica. And you never know, he could end up stationed out of here, i have a guest room you can use if you need to.

[QUOTE]they wear them A LOT. during fleet week, i htink that's how they get all the poontang they can ask for. they have a curfew, so one of them had said it was easier to stay in his dress uniform than to have to waste time changing when they can use that time living it up in NYC...but IMO, it's all about the poon. not that your H is going out there for the poon, but i always manage to pause and smiile at the service people when i see them in uniform. they deserve all the respect their dress blues get them.

Wow! That's fantastic news, CW. Former coirker was a career Navy wife and they lived all over the world - her favorite was India. My grandfather graduated from the Naval Academy and was a career officer - he and my grandmother have moved to more ports/places than years they have been married (55!). This could be a really exciting new chapter for the two of you!

thanks nico! That makes me excited. I'm so ridiculously excited to sell our house and get out of methtown.
And the first question I asked the recruiter was if we could have our dogs on base, and we can :)

CW, my grandfather has a couple of blogs that discuss his memories of being on the ship and what not. Since he's an artist, they're mostly discussions of the art + his memory/experiences. When I get home, I'll send you the links.

That is exciting - and life-changing. I have 2 uncles who were career military (navy and air force) and it worked out great for them. They were both younger than my mom and retired long before she did, then went on to get jobs as contractors, etc. - so they had their military pensions and benefits, plus the salary from the contractor.

The uncle who was in the navy never did a tour on a ship, believe it or not. Good luck to both of you!!

Wow CW. That's really exciting, but has to be really scary too. Good luck in everything.

My BIL's brother is getting ready to retire from the Navy. His wife is a little upset because she's gotten quite used to the lifestyle.

Yay for #1, and as for #2, I understand what it is like to uproot yourself for your H's career and the good of the family. If you ever want to talk about it, you know how to get a hold of me.

Also, Annapolis is fabulous. I'd be excited to go there, and to see hmo and zilla.

I'm proud of him for serving, and proud of you for supporting him. Like hmo said, you are stronger than you know. Plus, no matter where you go, we'll always be here. So, we're going with you ;)

J has been in for over a year now, and other than training he's usually always available. Its basically just like a job he does during the day and the rest of the time he's free. Hes been able to come home several times, and after they get married next summer they are living in a apartment off base. He is getting deployed though, Afganastan in a few weeks. But usually most Navy guys are away from that.
