My face hates me

Re: My face hates me

  • I've never had breakouts before - ever. A zit here and there, yes, but this past week I've looked like a pizza face.

Hubs even came home and started sniffing and said "why do I smell pizza?" and I said "huh? We're not having pizza for dinner..." and he said "Oh, it's just your face"

    I married a mean jokester.

DON'T do what I did - I bought some acne face wash stuff with super benzoyl peroxide and I have dried my face up to the point that it HURTS to smile or talk. I also went a little overboard with the washing and I have sensitive skin...but still. I"m red. it's not pretty. don't do it.
  • My face has hated me for pretty much the last three and a half years, and I'll be 31 next week. Back in March I went to the doctor and started on oral antibiotics, topical antibiotic, and Retin-A. I stopped both antibiotics a few months ago and just use the Retin-A every night. I still get the occasional pimple, but no where near as bad. I recommend seeing a dermatologist if you can.

I also decided to try an extractor. Sometimes it works and sometimes not--just be sure to always disinfect it.

I can't really use the over the counter stuff. I'm super-sensitive to benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid doesn't do much.

[QUOTE] Secondly, I switched from liquid makeup to Bare Minerals. I know a lot of people say it isn't worth the money, but it has helped a TON.

This has been the only thing to help me. I've never NOT had a pimple as well and for the past year or two it's been especially bad after I realized I was allergic to Benzol Peroxide (what is in Proactiv). Switching to mineral makeup has made a world of difference.

ETA: I also found that if I didn't wear makeup when I didn't have to, it helped. When I was on vacation this past spring I went almost a week without makeup and my skin really cleared up. That's when I started the mineral makeup.

I was home for 3 days with the stomach flu last week and didn't put anything on my face even when I had to go to the store. My skin cleared up from that.
  • I JUST go over this same thing.

I swear I was going through puberty again!  I hope yours clears up soon.  Mine did, but now I have red scars everywhere.  It'll take a while for those to go away.

My face reverts back to 13-year-old status every now and then and lasts for about three weeks.  I'm terrified this is going to happen right before the wedding.

  • Do you eat a lot of dairy? The hormones cows make when they're pregnant can trigger oil production in some people and cause breakouts. I stopped eating dairy products and my face went from being a mess to almost completely clear. Every once in a while I'll have something with milk or cheese in it and I end up breaking out two days later.

I have heard this as well.
  • Another sufferer here - and I'm 35!  Mother Nature can bite me if she thinks it's funny to make me deal with acne, wrinkles and grey hair!  :)

I wouldn't recommend the black head extractor - I tried it before and it's way to easy to misuse and make things worse (think scratches and bruising).  If you can swing it, Philosophy's Make-up Optional kit is amazing.  Back before all of my money was going towards the wedding, I used it and within 2 weeks I had completely clear skin.  In fact, I think I may just ask for it for Christmas and then try to make it last as close to the wedding as possible.  :)
