Happy 4th!

or.... Happy Wednesday for the Canadians out there ;)

Anyone around yet? I'm here, but I actually slept in a little, which was wonderful.  We had originally planned on having people over to grill out this afternoon. Except the heat index is supposed to be like 115, with the dew point rivaling the Amazon Rainforest again (literally.) So, I'm sitting my ass inside all day. ha

I'm not wishing you bitches anything today cause none of you wished me anything on sunday! I just found out two coworkers are super sick. They better fhuck right off and keep their diseases to themselves. Its always the ones with kids who are sick too. Just another reason...
• Good morning!

Yeah, we cancelled our barbecue.  it just wouldn't be any fun to be outside.  So instead, I'm going to tackle my sister's kitchen today and pray I find nothing that makes me vomit.  I've been so sensitive to smells lately that it wouldn't take much.
• Yeah, I'm not looking forward to that first year of immunity buildling, Nebb. My coworkers with little kids are ALWAYS sick. Eventually it's worth it though, I think. My mom NEVER gets sick after working in preschools and day cares.

haha. random story. H and I have a shared dropbox account, and it gives me a popup whenever something changes. He must be working on his brewing stuff, because I keep getting updates. I just IM'd him (from upstairs- he's downstairs. yup) and he was all "HOW DO YOU KNOW WHAT I'M DOING?!"
• Im here. We are having a huge cookout and its raining lol. Its supposed to stop and get really hot but the showers are going to be scattered all day. Too bad we couldnt have yesterdays weather! I was up all night washing sheets. Gia pissed ALL over my bed and pillow. I could kill her. Thank god i had a mattress protector pad because she would have ruined my mattress.

• Good morning, ladies.

I'm at work, because of the corporate merger and closing the books for second quarter.  At least they offered us 2 alternate days off if we work today - fine with me since we didn't have any plans for the 4th anyway.

It rained last night, which was a very welcome event for the firefighters.  We didn't get a lot of accumulation, but anything is appreciated.  There's a chance of rain for the rest of the week, so keeping fingers crossed that we get more showers.

• Some thank you for the birthday fun, eh Blue? I am off today but H is working so I might go to the movies. It's to damn hot to do anything outside.
• Happy 4th. My parents are having people over but I'm pretty sure we will all be inside all day. FI has to work at 5 so I'm going downtown with a friend to watch fireworks.

• Edie - more like 80% contained.  Fortunately weather conditions have been favorable for the last few days, so the fire hasn't grown significantly and most evacuees have been allowed to return.

My CW was evacuated for a week, and when they went home they found many neighbors' homes had been vandalized or burglarized.  Whothefuck goes into an evacuated home and slashes the furniture?  Or the people 5 houses away from my friend who got home to find it cleared out?   Or the fake websites set up to collect 'donations' for evacuees/rebuilding?  People suck,.

• Les, that's horrible. All of those poor people have already been through enough.
imageVacation
• Les, that's sickening. I'd be kind of pissed that the cops weren't watching better, though. For some assholes, that's an open invitation- knowing that the whole neighborhood is cleared out and houses are empty.

I think I convinced H to do an IKEA trip with me. I want to sit around and do nothing, but I feel too lazy. I need to go out and do something, but I want to stay in a/c ;)  I don't really need anything from IKEA though... hm.
• There's a big chuckwagon/music show tourist attraction in town that burned to the ground.  They have already posted on FB that the 'Rebuild Flying W' website is fake and please don't donate.  I hope they find and prosecute all these asswholes who are profiting from others' tragedy.

• Just popping in to say good morning and happy 4th, everyone!  Vacation is going well, aside from the horrific drive down on Saturday night.  I think we drove through near Williamsburg right after a tornado had gone through.  It was a bit nervewracking-- lots of downed trees and debris on the road for most of Virginia and into NC, and then NC didn't have any power for about 50 miles and I needed to use the restroom.  That wasn't too fun.

Hope everyone has a nice holiday!

Wow, that's awful.  I mean, it shouldn't surprise me, because I know that there are truly horrible people out there, but it does surprised me anyway.  Way to kick people when they're down.

• Oh, we're having a couple people over today, and we're grilling, but we plan on spending most of the time inside.  When I got up at 9:30 and saw it already 89 degrees, I knew it would definitely be as bad as they said it would today.

• Back in America beetches!

Got back to Cinci last night about 1 am. Did laundry til 3 am. Driving up to MI tonight for some fireworks, my birthday is tomorrow, up to my cottage on Friday (maybe Thurs) and then a wedding on Saturday. So. much. travelling.

Antigua was awesome. I don't really have time for a proper recap and H hasn't uploaded our pics yet but I've got this one from his phone. This was the view from our balcony that we woke up to everyday. Waking up this morning sucked, though it was nice sleeping in our own bed and without all the crazy exotic birds and frogs.

Edie--it's tomorrow. The big 2-5. I'm glad I've had so much going on to distract me from the fact that I'm getting older.

Good morning!

I hate the Fourth of July. I like the meaning behind it, obviously, but I could do without private citizens shooting off fireworks. I like big displays by professionals, but people shooting them off themselves is annoying and wasteful, IMO. I just don't like being woken up by rockets at 2am, or seeing all the trash left in the streets. Not to mention, we have drought conditions here, and I'm really worried about fires after everything that's going on in the Western states right now. (Although YAY for 80% containment!)

Anyway, off of my July tirade. We are going to a BBQ at my uncles' house later. It's also doubling as two of my cousins' birthday parties, otherwise we'd be staying home.
SEWF, that's another reason why I love living in Leawood and a block from the police & fire station. No private fireworks & if you try, the cops are there in a heartbeat. Al, shut yer face. 25 =/= old. Happy birthday!!
Posted by jcbsjr
<div>I'm not far from the fire station, but far enough into a neighborhood that they probably wouldn't find out where it was coming from. And I know going over into KCK for the party later is going to be horrible. Luckily my uncle lives on a main road, so we won't have to drive right past anyone shooting them off.</div>

• Morning. I slept in and it was awesome. I needed it.

I think we're about to head to Chipotle for the first time, assuming they are open. Then Walmart. Today I have some book stuff to work on and I have to do class stuff.

I kept having recurring nightmares last night, the same one every time I fell back asleep, about my first in-class teaching venture. By now I pretty much know every way not to teach a class because I did them all in my dreams.

Sesh- At least you got the bad stuff out through your dreams, so you'll rock it in real life!

• Happy Birthday, Capone!!  25 =/= old.

I <3 Chipotle, Sesh.  I think the bosses have ordered pizza for lunch today, since most of the department is here.  I'll take a free lunch anytime.

The weird thing is that the evacuated neighborhoods require ID proving you live there to get in - there's a cop on every corner to monitor traffic.  I'm wondering if it's someone who lives nearby who is stealing stuff and filling their garage, or the vandalism is just random punks who walked into the neighborhood on the bike path.  Whothehell trashes someone house and shiiits on the floor for fun?

There's zero tolerance for fireworks this year, and no professional displays allowed either.

• Hey everyone! Happy 4th. FI and I are headed to "Brewpendence Day" at this new brewery in town. There'll be beer, food, and fireworks...sounds like a good 4th to me!

Acaponi, where did you stay in Antigua?

Cocos Hotel. It's near Jolly Harbour.
Also, I LOVE Alana. I don't think I've ever laughed so hard watching TV.

And I know 25 isn't OLD, but it's older :-P

• No excitement for me.  H wants to go to a friend's block party.  Those get loud and obnoxious real quick.  And, one of the guys there works for Ska Brewing, so he's bringing a keg of Modus Hoperandi and a kig of something lighter.  That means H will be LIT up and I'll have to be the boring responsible one.  Sad face.    I ahve a bunch of stuff I need to clean in our study. I hardly know where to start.

Plus there's getting ready for the wedding on Saturday, packing and all.  Someone suggested Moe's for decent food including Walleye in the MSP area.  Any feedback on that one?  Thanks in advance.  Ok,  Time to get my butt off of the computer, or else I won't be productive at all today.
• We stayed at Cocobay last summer (where we got engaged). I think it's owned by the same people. It was A.ma.zing.

Did you hear Alana is getting her own series?

• Hey ladies! Happy 4th! We are BBQing today. I am pissed because I asked H to get shrimp from Costco yesterday because I planned on making a marinade to grill shrimp. He brought home the precooked frozen ones. WTF am I supposed to do with that?? He was like, "you didn't tell me to get the uncooked ones." Note to self, if I want something done, I have to do it.

• Les people are assholes. Half my city flooded at the beginning of June and a lot of people were forced out of their homes and some had piled all their belongings outside because it was garbage and they needed to get the contaminated stuff out of their homes before clean up could begin. People went into the homes and stole stuff from the people who weren't there and other people stole the garbage from the streets.

Happy 4th to you Americans!

• I am sitting out in front of our cottage, drinking a cocktail, and admiring the river. We had the smoothestbdrive up here ever since we went overnight and for once CT wasn't doing any road work. Unfortunately when we got here we found the whole house covered in dirt and wood chips since the roof was just replaced. I guess this is cleaning karma since I didn't come help open the place this year. My family isn't coming up until tomorrow so FH and I have the place to ourselves. As much as I look forward to seeing them, I am thrilled to have a day to relax.
