I love you.

How often do you say it? I was just getting off the phone with my mom at work today and I said "I love you!" and they guy sitting outside my office was like, do you say that everytime you get off the phone?

Uhh...yeah. I do. To my dad, mom, brothers, in laws, and husband, we always say I love you before we hang up the phone.

SO POLL:

How often and when do you say I LOVE YOU to your:

Parents?

Silbings?

In laws?

Significant Other?

Pets?

Other?

  • Parents? Every now and then, not every time I talk to them, but often enough.

Silbings? Probably on special occasions only (they're younger brothers and they're all "eeeuw cooties" about it) or if I'm feeling like a sap or joking around.

    In laws? Never.

Significant Other? Fairly regularly, every other day-ish.

Pets? All the time. Like, all the time. More than anyone else. What does that say about me, I wonder?

  • Parents? Pretty much every time I talk to them.  Every other day just about.  My dad a little less than my mom.

Silbings?  My little sister whenever I talk to her.  Once a week?  The others less often.

In laws?  They tell me they love me all the time, it's sweet.  We only talk about once a week.

  • Parents - Rarely. Like once a year, and it's awkward because it's not something I grew up with. We love each other, but I wish they had made it a habit when we were kids.

Silbings - Same as parents. Sometimes my sister says "I love you" in emails.

    In laws - Never have

Significant Other - All the time. A few times a day... and we're going to do it with our kids too.

Pets - No pets, but I don't think I would.

Other - I don't tell anyone else I love them. Mostly just FI.

In laws? They are not my in-laws yet, but I honestly don't think I've ever told them I love them. Undecided

    Significant Other? Lots. and Lots.

    Pets? Almost more than Rich

Other? I give lots of love to myself.

  • Parents - Dad, every time we get off the phone. Mom, she says it to me, I sometimes say it back, or at least a friendly-sounding "yep, you too.."

    Silbings - Don't have these

In laws - They always tell me they love me on the phone, so I say it back. I don't really initiate the I love yous with them, though,

Significant Other - All the time. It's probably obnoxious to people who aren't us. ;)

Pets - We tell our dogs we love them, yes. Mostly in babytalk, ala "I wuvs my doggies!"

Other - Usually if someone says it to me, I will reciprocate. Close friends, mostly.

    Parents?  Not often

Silbings? Never.  She would freak out.

    In laws?  N/A

Significant Other?  Once in a while.  We used to say it all the time but now it's implied.

Other?  My best friend B?  Every time we email or chat.  Grandma?  same.  That's it.

We are definitely not a huggy or big emotional family with lots of hugs and I love yous.  People think we are weird.

Parents? - every time we get off the phone or say good bye (they live far away though, so I don't see them in person often) They always say it when we hang up. So I say it back.

Silbings? - almost never, unfortunately. That's what happens when you have a 24-year-old dude for a sibling.

    In laws? - nope

Significant Other? - every night before we go to sleep, and every morning before we leave for work. At least.

Pets? - more than all the rest combined, probably!

  • How often and when do you say I LOVE YOU to your:

Parents? My mom always.  My dad, rarely.

Silbings? My sister and younger brother, frequently.

    In laws? Never

Significant Other? Probably about 5 times a week, maybe more depending.

    Pets? N/A

Other? Random peeps on here - infrequently, but I don't put it in the same category as the others.
  • How often and when do you say I LOVE YOU to your:

    Parents?
Every time we hang up the phone or leave the house (if I'm home)

    Silbings?
    Same as parents

    In laws?
We don't say the phrase, but I sign my e-mails "Love"

    Significant Other?
A bajillion times a day. Every time we part, hang up the phone, text, have sex, or randomly sit around. It doesn't get un-special, because his face always lights up when I say it :)

    Pets?
    Hm, I don't actually. I just say " HI PIGGY!!" in a high-pitched voice.

    Other?
I say it to my two best friends.
  • Parents - I wish I could (in person).  Mom died 37 years ago, and Dad died 12 years ago.
Grandparents - Ditto parents.  No grandparents left.
Sibling (Brother) - only in bday or Christmas cards, not really out loud.
In-Laws - Original MIL, whenever we talk, or sometimes in email.  New MIL, not yet, except for signing off a letter or card as 'love, Leslie'.
    DH - Every day
Kids - MIne - frequently/almost daily.  His - um, no.
    Pets - Every day.

How often and when do you say I LOVE YOU to your:

Parents? I write it in cards, but that's it.

    Silbings? See above.

    In laws? Never.

Significant Other? Several times a day.

    Pets? Most days.

My family and I aren't a very "I love you" huggy-huggy, kissy-kissy type of family. It is just known that we love each other. I don't say it to my best friends either. My aunt says it to me sometimes and I'll say it back, but I'll never say it first. DH grew up saying "I love you" to his parents and sister, so they end their phone calls with that as well. He thinks it's weird that I never say it to my parents/brothers and I think it's weird that he always says it. :)

  • Parents? Maybe once or twice a month. I say it more to my mom but usually its when im asking her to do things for me and I follow it up with "i loooove youuuu!!" in a singsong voice.

Significant Other? 4-5 times a day maybe

    Pets? all.the.time

    Silbings?
    Same as parents

    In laws?
    Never...feels weird.

    Significant Other?
    About every day or two

    Pets?
    Constantly!!!

  • Oh and i also call my husband "my love", so i dont know if that qualifies as "i love you" or not. I call him that atleast 3 times a day.
  • Parents:  rarely

    Siblings:  Ha.  No.

In laws: MIL says it every time you say goodbye, so I respond in kind.

    Significant other: daily.

    Pets:  Yeah.

Other:  Ermmmm   I told my guildies I love them last night, does that count?  It was in that drunk, "I LOVE you guys!" kind of way.  Suppose this means I shouldn't complain about Toro calling me babe...

Parents deceased but I used to say it

Siblings, when saying goodbye on the phone or in person

Inlaws deceased - I killed my MIL so I doubt anyone would believe me if I said I did

SO - well, I did say it a few times a day

other?  Daughter, every time I IM with her or talk on the phone

Brady- every time I see him or talk to him on the phone
  • A lot to all of the above.

I tell my friends I love you when I am drunk.

  • How often and when do you say I LOVE YOU to your:

my Family: whenever we are about to hang up the phone, leave their company, etc.  On the daily :)

In laws?  Eh, not that often but if we've had a long phone convo or significant discussion, I will say it or after a gathering, etc.

Significant Other? A lot.  In the morning and in the afternoon, oh skinnamarinkadinkydink.

Pets? used to tell her all the time!

Other?  Friends, I say it to them the same as family.  It's important to me to tell people I love them that I do.

At first, they'd be all "yeah, me, too" but now they are good about saying "love you!" - they even say it first sometimes.

    :sigh: I ♥ love.

    OOT, I think I missed something here. . .

Parents?  Whenever we end a phone call or a visit

Silbings?  Same.  I find it to be a tad forced/awkward at times.

In laws?  Thus far not verbally, just in emails/cards.

Significant Other?  Couple times a day.  For sure when the first of us leaves the house in the morning and before we go to bed.

Pets?  Sometimes.  My affection for the dogs is usually shown via hugs and such.

Other? Nothing comes to mind. . .
