How to greet guests

We are having a small ceremony with just our family and then having a large reception with everyone so we can't really have a receiving line because we likely won't yet be at the reception when everyone arrives and we don't want to just greet the guests at the ceremony.  A lot of the guests at the reception don't usually sit around too much so going to the tables to greet everyone won't really work either.  Does anyone have any suggestions for another way, preferably fun and unique :), to greet guests at the reception? Thanks!

    You don't have to do anything unique, nobody is going to avoid you during the evening and make you chase them down.  You'll have people coming up to you and stopping you all night to congratulate you.  It actually gets exasperating after a few hours when all you want to do is get to the other end of the room to get to the bathrooms :P.

    Just make an effort to circulate, and talk to everyone.  Don't just plonk yourself down at a table all night and expect to have them all get in line..  Keep in motion.  People kind of have a 10 foot radius of approach, not sure why.  As soon as you hit it, they'll be drawn in to talk to you.

    Most weddings I've been have had the newly married couple be served first and then do table visits while the guests are eating.

    At our AHR, we had passed hors d'oeuvres and a whole cocktail party thing.  My husband and I made it a point to move around and talk to everyone.  We knew who was there and who we hadn't spoken with yet.  Interestingly, we were rarely together during this process! 

    I reccomend table visits during dinner.

    At the recent weddings I've been to, the B&G greet the guests during dinner after they ate that course. They hit 5 tables during the bread, get their salad first, eat, then hit 5 more tables during that course, then get their main meal, eat and hit the rest.

    I recommend having table visits during dinner. 

    Another idea to have, is your reception having a cocktail hour?  Perhaps you can do a receiving line for guests as they enter the reception room from the cocktail hour room.

    I'd do table visits after dinner has been served.

    If there is anything you really do have to do during your wedding, it is indeed greet your guests, regardless of the "fun" aspect.  I'd also forget about "unique," because it is a requirement of all bridal couples at all weddings.
