Salt, that reminds me- I go to this big, chain liquor store near me, and one time I was buying beer and they asked me if I would donate $1 to children's cancer research.  I almost said no, but then I told the cashier I'd be kind of a jerk if I spent money on beer but not poor little kids with cancer.  Well played, liquor store...

Our LCBO's do this too. They're all "Would you like to donate two dollars to Sick Kids Hospital?" what am I going to say? No, I'd prefer to put that extra two dollars towards the hundred dollars of booze I'm checking out? It's smart.

SMTTT!!....yeah okay. I'm a loser. I went to USM too. Nice to formally meet you, as well!

I'm jealous that your FB stalker is a latin american man. Mine is an autistic daughter of one of my mother's friends.  She's constantly messaging me strange things. I just can't be rude to her and tell her to leave me alone - now I feel like a horrible person for feeling stalked by an autistic person lol. She's sweet! She's just...overbearing.
• GO USM! What did you go for, if I may ask?

Yeah this guy is an Ex BF who I want to leave me alone and I need to block him but I keep forgetting how.

LDYGTR, my nephew is autistic,  It's hard for them to understand social cues.

I don't think you should feel bad.  You're not, you sound patient.

But I would take an autistic person over a Latin male stalking me.

ETA: To hit the ABC button....oops.

• My company does a huge united way campaign every year.  And they match.  So I t hink we did about 15k this year.  It's local.  There are 3 elements.  Homeless adults.  Homeless kids.  And something else.  I chose my money to go to the kids.  Cause you get them off the street and you'll have less adults on the street later.  Plus my sister used to work with homeless kids in my city.

These programs focus on getting them off the street.

I do not give cash to the homeless outright.  Not in my city where jobs are a dime a dozen.  I'll give them food though.  Or to programs that will assist them or feed them.

That made me feel so much better. I left work right after typing that last message - I swear I'm not a horrible person and she's so sweet sometimes. But other times it's creepy. I try to be so nice to her because so many people aren't - it really just gets difficult sometimes.

Like Mandy I'm late to this party, but we do the same thing. They have a huge kickoff every October and there are about 20-25 organizations here that we can choose to donate to. My money goes to the Girl Scouts.

ETA: Meaning we have a United Way campaign as well.

• Confession, I posted this one.

I love it when companies do the "round up the change" way of doing donations. I feel like it's much more effective than other methods.

(Yeah yeah, I'm late to the game, shut up :P )
• It's ok Katie. We can carry this on to the after party. :-)

That was a sad KPS, but Lillypie is at 10 weeks! I know it's been rough, but we're all pulling for you and your family. You'll have a happy healthy baby!
image
• Yep. Hopefully she will settle down for the remainder of the 1st tri. I've been to the ER twice already, once at 7 weeks and once at 8 weeks so it's been an interesting time. I keep telling her that there are more people than we can imagine pulling for us.
• Huge hugs Katie.  I'm pulling for you too.  You are lucky enough to tell her that she already has an international fanbase =)
Off-topic from people charities, but my local Petco now does this thing where I can round up my total and they give the extra money to their pet charity and to the rescue that operates out of the store. (Where I adopted Baby G!) It's so easy and I never miss the money...I wish more places would do things like that.
Posted by salt78
Every grocery and pharmacy does this here for different charities...little old people, hungry kids, etc. Not pets :)

I usually do it because one peso coins are so ridiculously small and worth nothing, but I've heard that not all the money goes straight to the charities/that the stores somehow benefit from it too, so I'd like to find out more and see just how good a system it really is.
