I've never tried Nuvaring but I went through a ton of different types of BC over the years before I found Yaz and I have had no problems/side effects with it at all for the 3 years I have been on it.

Ok - so I'm catching up now from a hellacious trip to the post office. WOW.

I will say this - this is one of the most odd FFF's we've ever had!!  :)

RE:  Moderators/other boards... it's true, I will shut you down for calling someone a name like that (in a mean hearted way)   :)   It seems to me that the rule of thumb is the national boards are a little (ok - A LOT) more lax than the local/month boards, and probably because they're easier to maintain since less people are posting on them.  Everything that the E board stands for is against the Knot Community Guidelines, so I am not sure how it exists like it does.  I guess as long as those people stay on the boards, it will always be a problem.  I don't really know how they would fix it at this point... but when those girls get banned (by Knot Annie even), they just make a new screen name and come back.

RE:  BC - I have an IUD and I recommend them highly.

Im taking Azurette, it is $39.99 at Walgreens (I have no insurance). I have been taking BC since I was like in middle school (I had HORRIBLE periods)....and I LOVE Azurette. I have my period for about 2-3 days and it is super light!! Before BC I had 7-8 really heavy days with MAJOR cramps!

I haven't been using oral contraceptives for quite some time and when I did I used Ortho-Tricyclen and tried switching to the generic version of it and my body didn't react well for some reason although they should have the same checmical makeup.

Question for Jaymi... isn't Yaz they one that they have commercials for on TV saying that had caused some major health problems for some users?

Brianna - I've read that an IUD is recommended only if you've had a child... is that right?  That being said I have a friend (of a friend) who used an IUD and finally had to stop using it, because it never soften and it was making her DH raw.  (Sorry for the TMI).

Yes those commercials came out when I had my appointment.  Actually my doctor was the one to tell me about it but since I don't have any of those issues (the main one being kidney problems) she said I was okay.  However, I do know Yaz isn't the only one that has had those kinds of claims.  It seems like it rotates every so often to another one.

Jumping it, but yeah, it is. And Yasmin, which I love. But the thing is, ALL hormonal BC can cause blood clots. you have to be careful. To me the small risk is worth it compared to the great help it gives me. I had to have an ovary removed due to a extremely large cyst, I have endometriosis, and all the women on both sides of my family have had hysterectomies before age 50. Keeping my remaining parts healthy is super important to me, and Yasmin does that the best.

If you do well on a low estrogen pill, definitely take that. But some women just need more help.

We have a friend who does medical research and she was telling me that her current study is about the BC that makes you have your period less frequently. What she was telling us was very shocking. I'm going to share it with you guys just so you know.

She was telling us that the research is still being done but what they are finding is that the women that took the BC that gives you fewer periods actually increases your probability of getting heart disease at a younger age.

She was saying there is something about having a period that releases hormones (or whatever) that helps prevent heart disease and when we unnaturally halt our periods with the BC we are stopping the release of said hormone and increasing our chances of heart disease.

Since the research is still new she was saying that most of it hasn't been release yet so most people don't know the long term results of stopping their periods. I'm not trying to be negative Nancy, I just want you all aware of what the long term consequences are.

Wow Reene thanks for sharing!  I'm on Seasonique and only have 4 periods a year.  It has been great so far and I don't have any side effects but the heart disease scares me now.  I'm only taking it through March and then I'm stopping all BC so we can TTC.  I had another BC I was taking before that I might switch back to for the remaining 3 months!  Thanks again for sharing!

This is the primary reason why I stopped taking BCP altogether.. because I didn't know what the long term affects would be on my body. I read in some places that taking BCP for more than 5 years, increases your chances of certain cancers while of course my doctor said it helped reduce chances of a different kind of cancer. In short, I decided against taking something that altered my body's natural function to any degree. I know that may seem extreme, but it felt like the right thing for me.

I remember back to when I first started BC, I had to try like 5 or 6 different kinds because they were not strong enough and I would have break through bleeding EKK

I just look at it this way...I don't want a baby right now, so $40 a month is not that bad compared to what a child would cost <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-tongue-out.gif" border="0" alt="Tongue out" title="Tongue out" />

Due to some issues I have not had a period in two years while on BC. The long term effects scared me too, but I just couldn't take the pain, heavy bleeding, etc. My body was continually making cysts even when the BC was supposed to stop them from growing, constant BC is the only way to stop this for me. I am going to the doctor next week, I was planning to ask her about this but now will for sure.

Re IUD - Per my gyno you do not need to have had a child before, but you need to be sure you don't want to have one very soon. It is not something to be put in and then taken out 6 months later, you really need to keep it in for awhile.

Oooh!  Thank you.  We are not going to TTC anytime soon.  DH and I discussed having a baby before I'm 35, so I still have several years.  Hmm... But, Renee just scared the crap out of me, so maybe I will remain hormone-related BC free.

Interesting research Renee.  I got on BC to help regulate but non-TMI, long story short I have maybe 2 a year, if that, which is half of what I should have because I create polyps on my uterus otherwise.  It's either stay off and have issues or stay on and have issues.  Until we TTC, I'll stay on.  Gah, why does being a woman have to be so difficult?

wow so i had some catching up to do lol...

Renee, i'm interested in said research, but mostly because my doctor is very head strong about woman knowing EVERYTHING there is about BC.

When i first started on the shot with her she told me not to stay on it for more than 5 years, as it decreases your bone density like nuts.

i was on it for two before i told her i wanted to get off, my knees had started bothering me...and i'm a smaller person...being the paronoid one i am...i switched to the pill...about a month after that...my knees went out..she thought it was a blood clot or something from the pill..scared the living crap out of me...but after three months of testing, turns out i just had lost all the cartilage in between my knee caps...she recommended i either get off BC completely or start on the nuvaring because it's much lower on the hormones. i think every girl has to find what works for their body the best, and go with that....just because it works for one person, doesnt mean it will work for you. i plan on getting off the ring here in the next few years..the idea of staying on it again brings out my paranoid side
