With a reception

  • Use something like

Please join family and friends at a reception celebrating the marriage of so and so

I know it's bad etiquette to do a reception only invite but i've got wording for everything :)

  • If your ceremony truly is immediate family only, then having a larger reception is okay. This is the essentially the only exception to the "no tiered invitations" rule. If, however, your ceremony includes people outside of your immediate family, sending invitations to only your reception is very rude.

    Saying something like:
"Your presence is requested at a reception celebrating the marriage of Bride and Groom at Location on Date" would be fine.

  • We did a reception only invitation and this is what we wrote (keep in mind we were married in May and our reception is at the end of the month).  I found this doing online searches and liked this wording the best as it matched our situation.:

    You are invited to attend
a reception to celebrate the marriage of

    Bride
    &
    Groom

who were married in a private ceremony
on May 22, 2010 in City, State

Join the couple on September 25, 2010
