  • I'm a little sad she's not accessorized. But I definitely approve.

On a related note, have you seen the recent debate over the new pink legos? People are saying "there were already legos for girls, they were called legos". I don't know about you, but I used to spend a lot of time at Toys R Us desperately searching for pink and purple and glittery legos.

  • That was just you we were laughing at krizzo.  Legos are legos are legos.  I hate the pink ones.

  • I was thinking about the pink lego debate the other day.  6let likes to build with his favorite color which just happens to be blue.  What if it was pink?  Why shouldn't he get to build with pink?  I think it's stupid that they are marketed for girls simply because they are pink.  Boys can like pink too.
  • I don't have an issue w/ the new legos being pink, I have an issue w/ the fact that they're delegating these non-lego girly cafe sets that you barely build with as the target thing for girls...
Just make frickin pink legos, don't make these playmobil-wanna-bes and call 'em legos.

Agreed. I don't like them but thats just because I dislike the color pink. I agree they should have girly colors, just because, but just package them in the mega box of assorted blocks. I also hate that the 'girl' lego's are all storied up with the real people looking lego girls. I like my lego people with a round head and block bodies.

  • Hmm, I've never actually seen the "girl" legos.  I just assumed it was like the packs of primary colors.  I'll have to pay more attention now.
  • i wouldn't mind having glittery LEGOs, but only because i like sparkily stuff.

toys like LEGOs don't need to be marketed to specific genders  - it's sad that they feel a need to do that. LEGOs were one of my favorite toys when I was growing up - heck, i have bought several sets over the past few years because i still like building with them.
  • Have you guys ever played with the Kinex?  Holy wow, those are more fun than I ever had with Legos.  Though they are for a bit older kid.
  • Hell, I had a pink box of legos last year --because it was cheaper than the blue box (clearanced out for some reason and I needed some for a classroom project).  I just shrugged and didn't care--I don't like the 'pinkification' of the world, but if a kid wants a pink box, whateverLEGO Bricks & More Pink Brick Box (5585)

But that's not waht these 'new' legos are...they're little playmobil type things w/o much building at all--they're just bigger-than-average pollypockets
  • (FWIW, Buffy got a pink megablocks set for Christmas because it was cheaper than the red set too.)
  • I think Legos needs to connect with that toy baking company that I can't remember right now. and let girls make their own oven and add a light bulb to bake.  THAT would be a helluva toy!
  • Have you guys ever been to a lego store? They just have huge bins and you can buy whatever parts you need in all different colors. All legos should be sold like that - it would be amazing.

Also, I thought the new pink legos were just the multipacks with different colors. I'm sad to hear they're not.

  • Do they have those play sets for boys?  I guess I don't spend much time in the lego aisle.  We have the megablocks as hand me downs and when the time comes I'd much prefer the kinex.  They are a little pricey though
  • I love lego stores.
  • 6, Sams Club sometimes has the huge sets of K'nex on sale for $20 (I think).  Usually around Christmas.  Last year we stood in front and debated it for our BFFs kids and finally decided they were too young for it really and we were just trying to buy it for ourselves.
  • Hmmmmm, I'll have to watch next year.  We just have so many mega blocks and other building stuff.  These are really cool though.  I've been purging toys as I pack so maybe there will be room.
  • FWIW, if you want to watch for deals, camelcamelcamel = amazon tracker.

You can see if the 'sale' price on amazon for an item is the cheapest it has been in the last year or not and get an alert when the price drops below a certain amount.

so the current 'sale' on kinex tubs = cruddy:

But you can set up an alert and it'll tell you when it drops back down to $14 at Christmas time :)
  • That is exactly what Sams club had too.  Awesome, GBCK.  And I still want to buy it.  :)

DH and I crack up that we're the good aunt/uncle couple b/c we're just babysitting the kids to do the stuff we want (we have a kids science/history/playhouse here that is just too much fun, I mean, they had a Sherlock Holmes exhibit last year, c'mon!!!!) that would look weird if we tried to do it by ourselves.  Add a kid in tow?  Totally normal.
  • I don't care for K'nex. We have had a few and they just don't seem to last very long. DH still gets a set of leggos for christmas though. Even if it is just a car or something silly. MIL brought over some of his things he still had at her house not long ago and three of the boxes was nothing but leggos. We had a blast that weekend. There were leggos everywhere! And lincoln logs.

  • LEGO "Friends" looks lame.

Wolverine has some pink/purple/blue mega bloks and some primary colored ones.
  • oh, lincoln logs. I used to love those, but hated how you were usually limited to right angles unless you had some of the special connector pieces. This thread is making me very excited to have kids some day so I can justify buying all this stuff, lol.

why do you need kids to justify buying toys for yourself? i bought the LEGO pirate ship that "Santa" never brought for me 6 months ago, because i could.

they also make things like nanoblocks which are moreso geared towards teens/adults just because of the piece size. i have a few sets of those that i still need to put together.
  • I need to invent something awesome like Legos.

Haha you're right, I should just buy all this stuff (because clearly, there isn't enough in my apartment already). I do have a coloring book and crayons, which is a surprisingly relaxing activity. Plus, when you're grown up, and no one else has access to your crayons, they stay nice and in the box so much longer.

  • The entire time we were dating, when the Mr. and I would go out and do something like shoot pool, the winner had to buy the looser a lego set at Meijer (open 24 hours, has sale legos!) on the way home.
There's a large box of star-wars-legos/lego-technics, assembled in my basement.LEGO Technic Star Wars R2-D2
  • Was that the original pirate ship? Because I have been on the lookout for the original one for DH for about 8 years. It was retired though and apparently still popular and has been difficult to find. I almost just went through and bought all the pieces but the color's would have been off (this was one DH wanted to build and display. Probably next to the giant lego yoda we have).

  • I'm pretty sure H has a completed pirate ship in our basement JUST like you're talking.  It has been assembled for YEARS.  And dusty.

  • nope. :-( i bought the pirates of the caribbean one. the onld ones are on amazon on occasion, but REALLY expensive.
  • H's is oooollld school then.

  • Yeah, the last set I looked at they wanted $500 for and that was without the box. I told DH I didn't love him that much and bought him Yoda instead.
