To Early to Buy my Dress

My fiancee and me have only been engaged since may 1st. But I see that the dress that I want is going on sale. Is it to early to buy my dress since my wedding is in almost a year and a half. who knows what could happen in that time. But I don't want to miss out on a good deal on my dress. But what if I gain weight or something happens? Is it to early to buy my dress? Or is it ever to early to buy a dress?

Re: To Early to Buy my Dress

  • I was thinking that also, but I really love this dress. It is exactly what I have always imagined.
  • my wedding is in 2014 so i bought my dress ...  its last years line and ive had my eye on it even before i was engaged

i went to try it on to see if i liked it on ... i did and then i went and shopped around some more to see if i would like anything better than that one and i didnt so i ended up buying it

so thats my suggestion :P make sure its really special and theres no way you'll like anything else

ive seen other dresses (this years line) and still havnt found anything i think is better lol
  • Not going to lie I have liked this dress since 2008 when my sister got married. I have even tried it on before and it is perfect. Been looking around and there is similar ones that are okay but I really love this one. I think I am going to buy it.
  • I think you should buy it, as long as it's not so trendy that it's likely to go out of style by the time your wedding rolls around.  (And also don't buy it if you're planning on losing a lot of weight, trying for a baby, etc.)

If you're worried about gaining weight, you could always consider buying it a size big- a seamstress can always take a dress in, but can't always let it out.  Downside to that plan is it might make alterations a lot more expensive, cancelling out some of what you save by buying the dress on sale.  But really, if your weight has stayed pretty consistant in the past, I think it's fine.
  • If you liked the dress that long, you will probably like a year and a half out.  So if it's a really good sale I would purchase it unless you plan on gaining a lot of weight.
  • I bought my dress almost a year before my wedding because I, too, had been dreaming about it for a long time - and it was amazing on me.  If you're sure it's THE one, buy it!  If you're questioning the decision at all, don't.  Ditto what a PP said, too; if it's too trendy, don't do it.

  • I am thinking I am going too.
  • I bought my dress almost a year and a half before my wedding. I just wanted to start trying on dresses because it's fun and I fell in love with one. I have no regrets.
It doesn't have to be perfect to be everything I want!

  • The only problem where to hide it!!! He is very nosey. He already said he would look for it.
  • definitely buy the dress!  my cousin fell in love with a dress but wasn't engaged yet so she didn't buy the dress.  when she did get engaged, the dress had been discontinued and she had to buy a size 16 from ebay and have it altered down to a size 0.  that was a big hassle!  if you love the dress, buy it NOW!

  • i bought my dress right after i got engaged. with my line of work, im not really off a lot of weekends- me and my girls went and i found the perfect dress.  when you know its the right one, i'd say get it.

<div>I don't know where you a purchasing it from, but my bridal shop is holding onto mine for me.  You might ask if they do this sort of thing.</div>
  • I bought my dress a year ago, it was clearenced and an amazing price and fit really good off the rack (I did have minor alterations done, but nothing major). I would say buying it early paid off for me. The bridal salon held the dress for me until my final fitting which was 2 weeks ago so I didnt have to worry about storing it.
