Is it okay to make an address label for STD's

Is it okay to make an address label for STD's?

Not for wedding invites, only save the dates.

Re: Is it okay to make an address label for STD's

  • I hope so, because that's what I did.

I think the general consensus around here is that it's okay to be a little less formal with the save-the-dates.

  • The short answer is that all written correspondence should be handwritten, labels included.

That said, I had some nice wrap-around labels made for my STDs, and I won't spend two minutes feeling bad about it.

  • Me too!  They looked AWESOME!

  • I'll also add that I think this might be a little of a "what does your social circle expect?" type of thing as well.  I routinely receive wedding invitations using labels (the horror!  :-P), and while I won't be using labels for my own wedding invitations, I figured it likely wouldn't bother anyone if I used them on save-the-dates, given the general standards prevailing.

  • I used labels for both my STDs and my wedding invites...no one dropped dead from my 'faux pas', so I think you are good.  Honestly, the whole 'hand written' thing is one of the only etiquette rules I've never understood.

  • I'm probably going to use wrap-arounds for the invitations, as well.  FI is a graphic artist and we both have shiit handwriting.  So, anything that we printis going to look a lot better and be more visually interesting than my jacked up handwriting.

  • I will preface this to say that the etiquette police hate me.  We are not doing STDs at all, but we are doing clear labels for my daughter's wedding invitations.  If there are some people who will be offended and won't attend the wedding because of it, I'm truly and deeply sorry.  However I am pretty sure that no one will even notice or care.  I believe that etiquette rules ebb and flow, and this is one of them.  JMO.
  • I didn't even know that labels, especially clear ones, were  a no-no... I don't know if I have ever noticed how the return address was written on an invitation...

  • It's not a huge deal, but honestly it's something I notice.  I feel like addresses for invitations, STDs, any correspondence should be handwritten.

  • I have to admit it didn't even occur to me that I wouldn't make address labels for the save the dates.  We got cute ones at Michael's that were a pretty shape, but we printed them with some fancy cursive font in Word, and that is exactly what we are doing for the rehearsal dinner invitations (I know those aren't necessary but we found cute and cheap ones).  We did hire a calligrapher for the wedding invitations and they turned out amazing and got LOTS of compliments, but for the STDs, that never even crossed my mind.
  • Oh and I should probably add that our save the dates were totally informal compared to our invitations.
  • Okay, that's great! Next question, my FI and I's names are super long ,too long to fit on labels. (Jacqueline Andreozzi & Xavier Cruz) How could I word them.

first, i'd take full names out of the post. (assuming those are your real names)

  • My FI and I are doing clear labels for the STD and for the invites!  We both have horrible handwriting and I personally think paying someone to write everything will just be way too expensive.  I would rather put this money towards food or decor and the band!!

We have a genorous wedding budget and I acutally found invites that I love at micheals!! It is one of those Wilton kits that has pressed lavender in it!! I just can't see spending hundreds of dolars and like 4$ PP for the invite without postage!!

They go with our wedding theme perfectly and with the coupon only costed like 20$ for a box of 50!!

If anyone is offended by this or will not come that is their loss!!

  • We got a custom stamp made from an Etsy seller; we're going to use it for return addresses on everything. For the recipients, it's labels all the way - but they're going to be NICE labels. I just ordered them - oval shaped, made of glossy stock like a photo, and I have a border to put on them to match the invitation colors. Scripty font for names, sans serif for addresses... it all comes out looking quite nice and professional.

I agree with the previous poster... money is better spent on the music, the food, or something the guests will remember about the wedding itself.
  • How can I make labels from my guest list on the Knot, or do I have to retype each name and address into a spreadsheet? Please help asap as I want to get the STD's out this week!
  • How did you make the label,  can you do it from the guest list on the Knot?
