bridal party line up questions

Okay here's the issue....

Is it appropriate to have the wedding party sit down during the ceremony? My mother is opposed to the idea and I think that it will be fine. My idea is to have them all proceed in as usual and before I walk in they sit in the front pew.

Re: bridal party line up questions

  • Definitely!!  This has been the case in most of the weddings I've been in, and I've always really appreciated it.  : )  Also, I've had a few friends who have passed out during ceremonies, so I would highly recommend it.  Maybe check with your church since they probably have a specific way for the ceremony to go with the WP only standing at certain points.
  • I think that's fine. I have been to weddings where the BM's and GM's sat but the honor attendants stood up next to the B&G. Often, the MOH holds the bride's flowers, may straighten her train when she moves and the honor attendants usually hang onto the rings, so it may not be a bad idea to have them up there while the others sit.

  • If it's a short ceremony (like 10-15 min), then I would just have them stand.

But if it's any longer than that, or it's outside and gong to be REALLY hot, then have them sit.  I've been to Catholic weddings where the BP sat during most of the ceremony.

  • Yes! Especially if it is longer (like a Catholic service). I have always seen them sit!

  • Yes, it is definitely fine!

  • The only time I ever saw them sit was during a Catholic wedding and I remember thinking what a shame it was that they bought dresses and got all dressed up as bridal party and then ended up sitting the whole time. I thought it was quite odd, though I do get it because the ceremony was so long.

So I guess if your ceremony is long, it's a courtesy to them to let them sit, but it not, I think it's weird.
  • I think anything over 20 minutes you can allow your BMs to sit.  I was in a wedding where the ceremony was 45 minutes long and I was SO glad to be able to sit.

  • Definitely, especially if your ceremony is long... we are going to have the WP stand up basically whenever we are standing.  But during the readings, pastor's sermon, etc. when we sit they will also sit.  I think they will also probably sit during the vows.
