Adding Straps?

So I haven't gotten a dress yet, but a lot of the styles I like are unfortunately strapless - and I just will not wear strapless. Is it a "normal" thing to ask them to add basic/simple straps to a strapless dress, or should I just keep my eye out for something that already has straps?

Re: Adding Straps?

  • You can definitely ask for straps to be added. I've seen alot of girls have straps added to their dresses. Your consultant should be able to tell you if a dress can have them added or not.

  • If you do find a dress with thicker straps that allows you to wear a regular bra, your undergarment shopping could be a LOT easier!
  • I agree....I'm not a fan of strapless, simply because it doesn't look great on me, and I don't find it to be comfortable.  I was wondering the same thing!  I've been looking mostly at halter-style.
  • I've seen where brides take straps to a whole new level! I've seen where they have transformed a beautiful sash into a strap...totally modernized their look! My best friend wore her dress without a strap for the ceremony but then added it for the reception as a one-shoulder strap to her strapless gown, it was gorgeous! She got her's a www.abellie.com, I believe it was their "The Little Ellie" but I bet almost any of them would work :)

    Best wishes, doll!

  • Most designers have options for strap types. Mine even came with a sleeve kit! When you're shopping you might want to let them know so they can direct you to custom friendly lines.

  • Almost every dress I tried on so far was strapless and I hate strapless gowns. Most places told me I could add straps to any dress i wanted with no problems.
