Marriage Braid

If you're doing a marriage braid ceremony - where are you getting your cords from?  I've only found 2 places on the net for them.  Are you making them? If so, how? What colors are yours? I'm curious if I have more options...
TIA!

We actually decided last week to not use a unity candle and go with the braid, instead.  We're going to look at craft supply/fabric stores to see if the rope would be less expensive there than getting the "kit" from godsknot.com.
I found instructions to make it at:
    http://www.create-a-christian-wedding.com/cordofthreestrandsceremony.html
This site calls for a brass ring, 30" length of purple cord, 30" length of gold cord, 30" length of white cord, a small rubber band to hold the cords together at the bottom of the braid at the ceremony, and a gold thread/ribbon to tie at the bottom after the ceremony to make it "prettier."  (There is more information on the page).
We're using White, Gold, and Purple to keep with the symbolism

Awesome link!! I was also thinking it would be too difficult to make ourselves.. and I'm actually think it would be cool to display in a shadow box with the Ecc. verse and a picture from the ceremony.  Thanks for the great link, and I do think we'll stick with those colors - but I was curious of what people would do.

I made mine.  I got the ring at Michael's.  I ordered the cords online, but JoAnns may carry them (I found white and gold, but not purple at my JoAnns).   I think if I had to do it again, I'd probably order it already made.

Thanks iam! :-)  I'm thinking perhaps it'll just save me trouble to order the exact thing.. but I'm excited to make a neat display for it! Thanks!

We're doing the cord, but I only found the one place to buy it (Godknot) and it seems pretty pricy, so I want to try to make it myself.  And we will be sticking with the original colors.

So I was looking at the cords on the website and they look like honors cords that are used in high school and college graduations. If any of you who are doing the ceremony have some old honors cords or have friends or relatives with old honors cords lying around, I bet that would be a cheap alternative instead of buying the premade cord from online.

miss - you're a genius! I have a white and gold cord.. hmm.. we shall see. FI did think godsknot.com looked a little pricy, but I guess you pay for the convenience..

For anyone who is curious, the cords from godsknot.com are really thick, thicker than the ones from high school.  For me, it was worth it to just have them make it for me.  It also came with a really nice card displaying the significance of each color.  I'm glad this was one thing I didnt try to DIY!  They shipped it really fast and it looks really nice :-)!
