HOB opinions

Hi ladies - I know there is a lot of bad posts about House of Brides so I need opinions here. I'm trying to save my girls money on the Bridesmaids dresses. I think it's ridiculous to have to pay 200+ for a BMs dress.

Anyway.. I'm working with the HOBs in Aurora/Naperville area and they have been nice so far but I haven't made my order. I'm thinking about having my BMs order their dresses (having four different dresses for my four BMs) but HOB is honoring the online price and just adding $14.95 for shipping and $0 for taxes since it's shipped outside of the Chicago tax code.

So each dress comes out to around $150. Is this a complete headache waiting to happen... ? I bought my dress at Wolsfelt's in Aurora and they would give me 10% off my BMs dress but that still makes them 200 something with taxes and shipping included.

What do you ladies think? TIA for your help

Re: HOB opinions

  • When looking for BM dresses we also took a trip to the HOB in Aurora. The girl I worked with also said they would honor the prices online but she said we would be charged some insurance fee or something to it. I don't remember discussing tax with her.

I ordered my dress from Crystal Bride where the BM also get 10% off. We decided to go through them instead. The dress totals wond up around the same price.

I'm sure if you give enough time, HOB should be ok. I haven't really heard negative reviews of them.

  • I am kinda in the same boat as you.....
I would see where else the designer line is sold at and see if they can price match HOB. I also didnt want my BM's paying more than 150 however the extra money might be worth not getting a headache.
  • When my cousin got married (she is now an extreme couponer), her BMs found their dresses at a store but found them much cheaper at www.netbride.com We used them for my sister's wedding and I would use them for any other wedding I stand up in!
  • There have been tons of posts about how terrible HOB is. Personally, I wouldn't order from there.

Depending on your color scheme, we got our BM dresses from Target (online only). There isn't a huge selection but the dresses were all under $50.

A friend of mine used HOB 2 years ago and overall was not happy. She said, they seemed to never have time for you, once you ordered your dresses.
  • I need to start dress shopping soon, and am a plus sized bride. I heard they have a big selection, but after the reviews, I am so nervous to have my first experience be an awful one.
  • Each HOB is independently owned so all their pricing can vary among stores.

I had my BM's try on the dresses at HOB but ordered from Netbride.
