Re: Christmas results

  • FI and I are watching basketball right now, lying in bed.  I'll start cooking dinner in a few,

I was really happy with my gifts - mostly giftcards, and FI surprised me with a really nice bag.  Family is scattered all over, so I connected with everyone by phone and fb.  It's reall chill over here and I'm happy about that.

I can't wait to hear the stories, so I can live vicariously through you all.  The only thing I'm missing is to be able to give hugs to my mom, little brother and son.  I'll be able to do that soon enough though. :)
  • The family will be over in an hour, but I'm very happy with my books from DH (Eragon series) and the pretty diamond necklace I got.
  • We ended up going to SIL's for breakfast and gifts.  It was nice to be with the family for a while.  H and I mainly got beer and wine as gifts this year, so no complaints there.

SIL offered to pick up my Chinese take out for me, so she's on her way over here right now.

And betrothed, I'm disgusted with most of the comments that you have posted. I don't think I've ever read such judgmental comments in my life. I'm so lucky that the girls I speak to on theknot are nothing like you...I would've never come on here for ADVICE if I would've encountered a big a bitch as you. I genuinely feel awful for your children or your future children, and I think it would be irresponsible of YOU not to invest in their future therapy sessions starting now. Because trust me when I tell you honey, they're gonna need it. ~jcaruncho2010

  • We are at MIL's and it's been a pretty decent day. For gifts, we got some money and towels, and I got a calender and 2 DVDs. DH got a book and a money counter. We'll exchange gifts w/ my parents next week.

I am still crossing my fingers for Super Mario Brothers. I am so excited about that game!

  • Im prety pleased with everything I got, mostly gift cards but lots of little things. I got the work out stuff I wanted too (weight lifting gloves and heart rate monitor) so I cant wait to go to the gym tomorrow! I just burned my finger helping with dinner so I retreated upstairs because I was getting annoyed with the chaotic kitchen scene.
  • gift wise great.  I love my watch and my swarovski sea horses (DH give me a marine animal every year).  Plus the other random gifts (like DH received a 2 night stay in PR from work).

The rest of it kind of sucked.  I have not even seen DH today and it's almost 8pm.  Last night I did not see him until 10pm.

On the boat today we had 17 guests for our half day.  Not one of them celebrates christmas.  It kind of sucks the fun out of it when you are with people who do not celebrate it.

Hopefully I will pick DH up in the next hour and then hang out before we pass out from working so hard.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • We just finished dinner and it was absoulutely delicious!  Got tons of great presents and we played Trival Pursuit fo a few hours.  Now we're watching National Treasure Two.

I hope everyone is having a great Christmas!
  • I have a food coma... seriously feel disgusting as I ate so much crap for the past few days!

Other than that, Christmas was awesome!

My dad and his FI of 7 years surprised us with a surprise wedding on Christmas eve... JOP came to the house (very small town, apparently they do house calls!)  and it was simple, elegant and gorgeous.  :)

    That is so cool! :)
  • Christmas was great. My favorites were a new purse I'd been wanting and Erase Paste from Sephora (thanks to Eastie's recommendation) from my parents, and a Snuggie and an awesome cookbook from my MIL.  The cookbook is a compilation with all kinds of recipes from the best locally owned restaurants in my town.  I'm super excited to attempt some of the dishes.

We also got sweet new patio furniture from the inlaws. Other than that we mostly got money, so no complaints here!
  • Christmas was good. We spent it with R's family. I didn't get much this year, money was pretty tight all round. I mainly got chocolates and knick knacks. It was 31 celcius (87F) according to the gauge on the balcony, so so hot. I just wish we had christmas at R's parents place, they have a pool!
  • It was a good Christmas. Got back from a friend's house for dinner and watching Friends the 1st season. Next will be 2 an half men.

    Love Christmas
  • Christmas for me was a mixed bag. Got to spend it with my brother and his family, which was interesting. The food was outstanding; my brother smoked a turkey, roasted a pork loin, and grilled some marinated legs of lamb, my SIL made some kick-ass mashed potatoes, I did the veggies and desserts, which consisted of gingerbread trifle with lemon mousse and blackberry coulis, amaretti with kirsch buttercream and dark chocolate, and 2 different kinds of truffles.

Gift wise? Hmm, there is no way to put this without coming across as a whiner. I got a Wedgewood Christmas ornament from my husband, a velour jacket and pants from my parents, and a wine aerator (sp?) from my brother and SIL. My dad and brother went to Jared yesterday. Dad got my mom a sapphire and diamond pendant, and my brother got my SIL sapphire and diamond earrings. So yeah, I felt just a bit like the poor relations of the family.

     They went to Jared!!!! =)

    Sorry.

Anyhoo, I kinda feel ya. My mom is still stuck on this idea that I'm impossible to shop for (quite the opposite--I have very simple tastes and she goes overboard) so she got me a gift card. My sister got a sweater, robe AND a gift card. She also gave back one of my presents (a DVD) because she'd seen it and didn't like it. well okay...

Otherwise, it was fab! ILs are way sweet and got me tons of nice things--shirts, sweaters and a coach bag! =)

Despite all the grazing today, I really have a taste for a whopper...

It's boxing day now and we're finally back home. Christmas was great but tiring! We spent breakfast and lunch with my family- opening presents, eating and swimming, and then headed to Nick's mother's house on the mountain for dinner, which was lovely. This morning, we visited some friends for breakfast, and dropped in on some other friends on the way home before making it back here- at which point we quickly grabbed beers and I changed into one of the presents H bought me, very soft new PJ's. :) We skipped on the boxing day sales, but will go shopping tomorrow- we're going to a costume party tomorrow so must prepare for that!
  • Oh, and to answer your question, I didn't have a lot on my list (a few cookbooks I wanted, pj's, lingerie etc) but I got all of that and much more yesterday. My mother always goes a little crazy with the shopping, but she did give us lots of practical things this year (linen, towels etc) as well, so that was good.
  • Christmas was ok. Dad was a bit tired and his side of the family didn't show up until 3 hours after dinner but that's ok. SIL's family was with us, they seeme to be having fun despite not speaking english.

Mr lil got me a snuggie, the leopard print one. he's very proud of himself haha. Otherwise we got booze, money, and some clothes. One of my best friends sent us a toaster for our new apartment as a christmas/wedding gift. She's sucha sweetie.

Now it's boxing day and the soccer is on ALL day. so we're watching that while it's snowing ridiculously outside.

  • We did Christmas Eve with BF's mom and got some awesome presents. I got a food processor/juicer and a wine fridge. He got mostly gift cards and some clothes. Christmas morning was just us at our house. We got our daughter a million presents that she loved, so that was fun. BF got me some books, some bath stuff, and gorgeous earrings.

Then we tried to go to my grandma's for lunch, but the roads and traffic were to bad and we turned around (it usually takes us an hour to get there, after about an hour and a half we weren't even halfway). We saw at least 8 accidents. So we spent the day at home, which was relaxing I guess but I was pretty bummed. This was the first year ever I have not seen my family on Christmas. And BF pretty much slept all day and I sat around bored. But my nephews birthday is Sunday, so if the weather is good I will drive up there then and see everyone.

  • We spent the day w/ FIL's and had a really cozy, relaxing day eating, opening presents, and playing board games.

We got  a Ninja prep master, which I'd never heard of but my mom likes to buy crazy kitchen appliances on QVC, so we usually get one at Christmas.  We made margaritas w/ it when we got home, so I can't complain.  Also got pretty earrings and a fleece jacket from FI, bedding from FIL's (now we need to go get the King bed it'll go with), and a Sony Reader from mom.

Today I get to see my OOT besties, look at BM dresses, eat, and drink with them.  Can't wait.  :)
  • Yesterday we went to see H's parents and my mom's side of the family, and later today I'm going to my sister's house for my parents and I to exchange gifts,

So far I've gotten a few movies, Photoshop Elements 8 For Dummies, a video editing program, and an 11x16 canvas print of one of my favorite wedding pictures.  The funniest point in the evening was when my sister and i were exchanging gifts, because I gave her a photobook and Luke and she gave me a photobook of wedding pictures - neither of us had any idea that's what the other was going to do.

I also love that myfamily has a sense of humor, because my aunt got H that 3 wolf howling at the moon shirt off Amazon.  I was laughing so hard when he showed that to me.

  • We had an awesome time yesterday. We went to my father's house first to give them their presents (my dad nearly had a heart attack over his, which makes me so happy...I love giving good gifts). Dinner was at FSIL's in PA and it was delicious and I got to hang out with my adorable nephews. :)

  • Our christmas was lame, but that's okay.  Snowstorm killed out plans to go to see my mom so no christmas dinner.  FMIL went in for surgery for a third time in less than two weeks to figure out some bad bacterial infection that's going on in her leg.  Makes FI sad because he is really concerned that this infection will kill her.  And I got a cold yesterday, so I'm miserable today.

We didn't buy presents for each other this year, but have decided that we're going to sell a laptop and get a hometheatre laptop instead and maybe get me a Kindle, because for some reason I have a huge impulse urge to have one.

We did have an awesome burger at the bar for a christmas dinner.

  • i change my answer. i didn't get shiit. i didn't go to the ballet and the hat's the wrong damn one. fuckk xmas up its stupid ass anyway. i'm finished with it. forever.
  • I was happy. The only thing we didn't get that we were hoping for was a backseat cover to protect the upholstery from the dogs, but that's easy to get for ourselves. We had fun with the family and ate great food.

We just went and bought Super Mario Wii with a gift card and we're going to just chill out. I'm off all week, so I've got a long to-do list. Tonight is for relaxing.
