good morning, (P&)E

So, I ended up missing the Super Bowl last night. My BIL is in town for meetings all week, so my parents, daughters and I went out to dinner with him. Hubs was working, so he missed Fogo De Chao, poor guy. Anyway, I didn't eat until I felt overfull, but man, am I paying for it today. Way too much meat in one sitting. And both of my daughters ate more than I did. I can hardly wait until the teenage years roll around, starting next year, ack!

What's on everyone's plate for the week?

  • Good Morning.

Not much is going in until at least Friday.  There is a chocolate festival here in town from the 12th -14th and the Carnival in Nice is the 12th-28th, but we'll be gone for most of that, so we need to decide what we're doing when.

I'm also trying to figure out what I have in the house that I can use for a rolling pin.  I really want to try your shortbread recipe!

  • Morning! Our semester finally starts tomorrow, so I'm hoping that will put an end to this weird inertia I've been feeling for the last few days. I need to get my butt in gear.

Today I'm planning on going the gym to start a training program for a triathlon in June, so that's kind of exciting. I'm starting out slow, since I'm in pretty poor shape, but I'm hoping this gives me some structure this semester.

  • Hey! It really is morning for me!  I just got up a bit ago. Poor H has to do a conference call and then head out for the next two weeks.  I'm bummed.

Hello, surely you've got a wine bottle handy. They make great inpromptu rolling pins.
  • why yes I do.  I have many in fact.  (I'm such a dufus sometimes).  Do you think a full one or an empty one would do a better job?

  • Good mooooorning!

I'm sleepy.  It was my first crappy sleep night since H has been OOT, he gets back Wednesday - YAAAY!

His birthday is on Friday so we're each taking the day off work and going to Sea World! :) We haven't decided where we'll have dinner, but we're thinking about going to Kobe.  He loves it.

Other then that, just working for the weekend!

I feel your pain, Fischey. This is the first full week that I've had to work since literally the week of December 7.
  • Good morning.  I'm somewhat recovering from the SB.  Way too many shots were had last night.

I was suppose to go to a meeting about unions today.(actually I think it's more of a meeting on how unions are not good for our hotel), but I got the time wrong. So now I have to go on Wednesday.  Which means I will be working 10 days straight.   Boo.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • Good morning!  I love Fogo de Chau, yum!

Not a lot going on here.  My H has his follow-up appt with his doctor tomorrow.  This is after two months of taking cholesterol meds and eating super healthy.  He's lost a lot of weight, so we're hopeful that his cholesterol has gone down with that and the healthy eating, we'll see.  I'm curious what the doc will say about his anxiety though because that's still an issue from time to time.  Other than that, I think it will be a pretty boring week!

Jealous! We don't get a work holiday until Memorial Day! I used all my vacation time for the wedding and honeymoon so anything I take from now until Labor Day is unpaid - Gross!
  • I think a full wine bottle would work better. More heft behind it. Let me know how it turns out for you.
  • Good morning.  I'm working, but I refuse to put in overtime today.  I've been working way too much lately :(  I'm very much looking forward to going home and vegging on the couch later today.

And betrothed, I'm disgusted with most of the comments that you have posted. I don't think I've ever read such judgmental comments in my life. I'm so lucky that the girls I speak to on theknot are nothing like you...I would've never come on here for ADVICE if I would've encountered a big a bitch as you. I genuinely feel awful for your children or your future children, and I think it would be irresponsible of YOU not to invest in their future therapy sessions starting now. Because trust me when I tell you honey, they're gonna need it. ~jcaruncho2010

  • Hey there!

I'm working from home again today b/c we're still pretty snowbound in DC. The subways are running but walking through the snow 1/3 mile to the metro station sounds awful to me right now b/c my hips hurt from being pregnant and I think I overdid the walking thing yesterday :( I have a physical therapist appt. wednesday AM for it and I really hope the weather cooperates!
  • Good morning, everyone.  Work this week; we have the children this week, too, so things will be hopping around our house.

Sarah-I am in awe of triathletes - I honestly don't know how y'all train for all 3 events.  Good luck with that - how exciting & cool.  Danieliza - I hope there's good news for your H.  Good on him for making those changes.
  • ac - hope you feel better!  My back was killing me all last week.

I missed my train back to the suburbs.  I stayed overnight at FI's place to watch the superbowl and even though I left at the same time I always do, I got to the train station 10 minutes later than usual.  I still tried to buy my ticket at the station to avoid the $3 on train surcharge.  I ran from the ticket window to the platform just to see the train starting to roll away.  Next train isn't until 11 CST.  I have work I can do, but I don't think my boss will be very happy about this.
  • AAANNNDDDD I made it to work. Although I got stuck 2 times on the way here. Awesome.

I am a mess of really happy and sick to my stomach. I am finalizing my offer with a new company today and then turning in my resignation. I feel so sick about it.

This would have been my first full week in ages, except for the half day I'm taking tomorrow for a baby doctor checkup.  But now with no school, it's a 3.5 day week and I'm totally down with that.

Glad you got to work safe and boo for getting stuck.  You should totally move to Arkansas...we close school/work for practically nothing here.  It's pretty awesome!

  • Yeah, Alexia, it has been a nice run. Week of Dec 14 was exams, so the students were out by noon on Wednesday through Friday. Next 2 weeks were Christmas break. Next week we had Monday as a work day, then early release Thursday and no school Friday for snow. Following Monday was a snow day also. Week after that was MLK Day on Monday and sick day Wednesday. Week after that was sick day Wednesday to take my daughter to get her braces put on. Last week was a workshop on Monday. And next week is midwinter break, so I get the whole week off. Lovelovelove my schedule!

    Have fun!! I love SeaWorld.
When we were in Orlando last month, we went to Charley's Steakhouse on Int'l Drive. It was FABULOUS. Amazing, actually. Expensive, but huuuuuuge portions, so it's all kinda proportionate.

  • Morning!  Is it Friday yet?  I worked a 6 day week last week and only had Sunday off.  FBIL was snowed in and couldn't get his flight back to DC, so he hung out with us all day yesterday.  He's great, but I really wanted to remain in pajamas, unshowered, so I could clean the house and watch stupid TV.

I am also up to having about one WR anxiety attack a week now.  My mother calls at least 3 times a week grilling me about things I just don't care about.   I tried explaining to her last night that I have a lot going on at work, it's been a long engagement and I'm a little burnt out on the wedding planning...and her response was "It's ONLY been a YEAR, it's not THAT long.  And you STILL have a LONG TIME to go."

So I'm a horrible person because I just don't have the energy to care about favors or her outfit for the shower and I don't want to waste money on a rental car for our five minute drive from the ceremony to reception.  Every decision I make for the wedding is wrong.  She hates our invitations (that I spent a ton of time on), thinks our color scheme will look like a baby shower, and thinks I'm awful because I don't want to give her an Excel spreadsheet of cash amounts we get as gifts.  So, now I'm convinced our wedding will be ugly and nobody will have a good time.  FML.

Sorry.  I really needed a vent.

  • Sarah#s, how long is the triathalon for which you are training? I haven't done one in over 20 years, but never never never tried an ironman distance. My running limit was about 8 miles. Ah, those were the days.
  • Yeah, we got a foot of snow with about six more inches on the way.

Business as frickin' usual. Except the wind is supposed to come up a bit more later...that's gonna suck.

    Oh wow, sorry Brie.

    That stinks.

Is there any way you can tell her that she only gets one wedding phone call per week?  Or to please put things in an email so you can address them (or ignore) them properly? I know I can't do this with my mom, but can you just ignore her???

I did that with my family.  I just asked that wedding questions be sent to my email so I can answer them at my leisure and not be stressed out with other things.  I was working and moving and still trying to have regular life stuff happen right up until the wedding.

That being said, I was also on a low dose of Xanax the week OF the wedding because my hypohydrosis (excessive sweating) was out of control and my ulcer was kicking my asss.

    SHUT UP!

Your invites are AMAZING and I'm sure many, many knotties have drooled over them!  Your colors are tasteful and will NOT be baby shower-esque, and she needs to get over the fact that you have some tact and that she SHOULDN'T be given a spreadsheet of presents.

You are going to have an amazing wedding, and by the end of it you'll be married, no matter what your mom thinks of her dress or favors.  Keep your eye on the prize, girl, and don't let her get you down.
