October 2013 Weddings

Honeymoons? Any thoughts?

Since we're all in the same month, I'm sure we've all read the same recommendations on where to honeymoon in October. Anyone have anything picked out yet? Shannie- I saw you over on the honeymoon board so you inspired me to ask :o) And is everyone going right after your wedding?

We would love to do Hawaii because we really want to go there, but we also anticipate wanting to do a whole lot of nothing! Which everyone says would be a waste to go all the way to Hawaii and not see everything we can. So we're still throwing around ideas. My dream would be Fiji or Bora Bora, but sooooo not in the budget! Lol We've also been thinking about going on the honeymoon about a week or so after the wedding, just to let it all soak in. I also think I would like to go for more than 1 week and would probably feel better breaking up the time off of work, since I'm sure I'll want to take a couple days before the wedding off.

  • We aren't going on a honeymoon per se after the wedding. We are spending the week by ourselves at my grandparents cottage. My grandpa told me "for you I will keep it open an extra week" They normally close it down the first week in Oct (our wedding) so that is really nice of him.

We are looking to take our actual honeymoon in the winter sometime, Feb maybe, but not sure where.

  • I think we may forgo a real honeymoon take a weekend getaway the weekend after. I'd like to buy a house the next year and spending thousands more for a trip isnt what I want to do.

  • Hey!  I was thinking about asking this here the other day too!  Ya so we are thinking about a cruise. We don't travel much (just to Cali and Florida).  We want one that is about 5 days.  We liked one that carnival had.  They have a cruise that leaves out of Port Canaveral the monday after we get married.  It goes to Grand Turk, whatever Carnivals island is, and Nassau.  We want to go to Atlantis so bad but we can't justify paying their prices.  So we will be happy with our one day that we get there.  It doesn't seem expensive right now but I was wondering the longer I wait will the prices go up?  It makes me nervous!  We thought about doing Hawaii.  FI's sister is moving there for three years.  We were thinking maybe take a few days to "honeymoon" by ourselves and then go stay with them.  I just feel like it would be move expensive to do it that way.

  • We haven't traveled much together either, so I really want to do a honeymoon, even though every pratical bone in body screams HOUSE HOUSE HOUSE! So I get where you're coming from ladies.

We also thought of a cruise. I looked into cruises leaving out of New Orleans because neither of us have been there and I thought that would be a blast for a couple days, then hitting a couple islands. Lots of options! Have to find the right one for us!

  • We are planning on doing Hawaii!! And I also want to do a whole lot of nothing. We are planning on doing two weeks but spending two nights in San Francisco on the way out to cope with the time change (Hawaii is 6 hours behind us on the East Coast). We are then doing 3 or 4 nights in Maui which is more touristy and will probably be when we do a lot, then we are heading to Kauai for the remainder of the trip which I have been told by other honeymooners that I know is much more relaxed and not as many people/touristy.

If you do Hawaii for an extended period of time (7+ nights) I would def suggest splitting it up between different locations. At least that is what I have been told by numerous people. No matter where you go though, you will have a great time! I think I am almost more excited for the honeymoon than our actual wedding day haha ;)

We really want to just relax in the mountains. Somewhere like Montana, Colorado, or Wyoming and just be together. We don't want to do so much running around or do the "tourist" thing. Hopefully we can go sometime around February after the holidays pass and things get a little more back to normal.

  • FI have decided to stay "home" the weekend of our wedding as we have a lot of out of town / province guests coming. We are hoping to "run away" for a weekend just to relax after crazy times.
He has never been to Disney World (My family owns property 10 minutes from Orlando) so we have discussed that (Or doing the Disney Cruise)
Last week he told me he wanted to go to Ireland.. So now that is an option.
  • We're both sports nuts so since hockey and football will both be in season, and we love the hustlebustle of travelling, our HM will be to follow both teams to the cities they go to and go to all the games. That way we'll get at least 24h in a lot of different cities. I know that's the opposite of 'a whole lot of nothing', so probably not very helpful to you, but I like it :o)
  • FI and I are gonig to do a belated honeymoon (so does that change it to jsut a vaca?) beucase hopefully I'll be doing my first year of teaching at that point.  And becuase it'll be my first year (and the first few months, at that!) I wouldn't want to leave for a week.  Becuase of the hold-off we're still tossing ideas around on what we're going to do for it.

I LOVE this idea eelyak! We have honestly tossed this idea around too, but just based around football. I'm a Giants fan and he's a Steelers fan so we talked about doing the same. Though I do think we'll prefer laying on a beach somewhere, you never know! We'll have to see what the schedules look like next April if we don't fall in love with something else first. We have also discussed flights/departures for the honeymoon not interfering with Sunday football too :o)

  • We're taking the Empire Builder (Amtrak) to Essex, MT. We're staying at the Izaak Walton Inn in Glacier National Park. The scenery is gorgeous, and I can't wait to cuddle in front of the fireplace.
