Attire for my Dad

The type of wedding I am having is basic and simple. There isn't going to be a best man or brides maids or anything like that.. My dad is going to walk me up the aisle.. And then we will have a basic ceremony with 2 songs that we've picked out playing by CD.. and then that's pretty much it... We are having a reception afterward... And are asking our close friends and family to bring covered dishes, etc... We wanted something personal and cheap... And just sort of laid back and not really formal and have everyone being uptight... But my question is... Attire for my dad.. My dad is the type to have never wore or owned a pair of dress pants.. I was going to have him in jeans.. but I need to find a shirt for him to wear.. and I'm struggling a little with what to get for him.. We're using light pink in the wedding.. my soon to be hubby is wearing a light pink dress shirt w/ black dress pants and a vest.. No tux.. But I don't want to buy a light pink dress shirt for my dad.. I was thinking possibly red... Any suggestions or ideas??

Thanks!!

Why can't he just pick out his own attire?

  • If I left it up to him... he probably wouldn't do it...
  • What do you mean, he wouldn't do it?  Do you think he would show up naked?  I'm pretty sure he's capable of putting on clothes for the wedding.  He's not a member of the wedding party and doesn't have to match.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284

I was at the Men's Wearhouse today getting tuxes and saw a girl outfitting her dad in a button up shirt, slacks and a nice sports coat. The best part was you could tell he was impressed when he looked in the mirror. I totally recommend looking there. I have to shop for my mom's wedding outfit or else she may show up in platforms with dragons embroidered on them and cleavage you would be embrassed your mom would show... lol.

    PS: red would be great

Umm, I wore red Chinese embroidered platforms on on my pre-ceremony photo tour, and they were hella comfortable and looked awesome.  So way to be Little Miss Judgypants over there.

  • Judgeypants yes, I guess I am... I guess it comes down to not seeing my own "mom" wear such provoking outfits. I am sorry if I offended you with the shoes. Maybe I gave TMI but with the other posting concerned about why you may want to shop for your dad in the first place, I felt like sometimes we all have reason as to why and that's why I felt complelled to share.

  • Your mom is an adult and can dress herself.  If she looks like a hoochie, no one is going to be saying, "Oh, look at the bride's mom, how could the bride let her wear that?"  They'll be saying, "Oh, look at the bride's mom, what an attention whore."  So it's still not your problem.

A bride who is telling her parents what to wear is a bride who has descended into wedding madness.  Just say no.
