Recommendations for Make-up people that don't over do it??

Hi everyone!

My fiance recently went on a makeup trial and unfortunately the person (super sweet though) was just too heavy on the foundation and eyes and that was even after my fiance asked for something light and fresh. My fiance has olive skin and freckles (rare for a PR/ italian combo) and it seems that everyone goes heavy on the face trying to cover up the freckles and it can come off a little moulan rouge if you know what I mean. Would artists that use airbrush be a better route? Thanks. Sorry, this isn't my department.

I'm using Makeup By Denise - she's from Toms River but travels to you the day of. She will def. not over do it - I actually asked her to add more when she was done, because I generally wear a lot of make-up on a regular basis. She did airbrush and it lasted for me all day - her prices are also pretty reasonable compared to what I've heard others pay.

Not sure who she used, but I'm using Jeanine Mangan - www.jmmakeupdesigns.com

She does regular makeup as well as airbrush (I'm doing airbrush) and my makeup wasn't over the top at all.  In fact, the one thing I told her flat out was that I didn't want to look like an overdone version of myself and she did my makeup perfectly.

I used Michelle Lo Conte and she kept my makeup very natural and it looked great all night. I was really happy with how things looked both in person and in the photos which really mattered to me.

Here's one that shows her doing my makeup:

Im using Jillyan Scarpa but I prefer heavy makeup, I wear a good amount everyday in general and my wedding makeup is very dramatic. She also does my sisters makeup and my sister likes a more natural look and doesnt wear a lot of makeup and she also loves Jillyans work. Not sure who she used but she needs to be very specific about her likes and dislikes and if the MUA is good, she should be able to do it to your FI liking.

Jeanie Mangan actually has a wedding to do on the same day as ours so she is out. I've heard good things about her and it she's actually 10 minutes from my house. Oh well

smw42 - Michelle Lo Conte looks really good. Prices are higher than I was hoping especially since my fiance and I were thinking of paying for all of the bridal parties make-up as their gift. But her work looks exactly what my fiance is looking for. We're soooo good at going over budget Laughing

I usually wear NO make-up at all, so I definitely looked for someone who didn't have a heavy hand. I am using Donna  from amazing face and so far she's been great. She was really willing to work with me during my trial and started off light and added where/what I wanted.

I was going to recommend Jeanine Mangan but I see she's already booked.  I wouldn't recommend Gina Brozon, as she did to me exactly what this make up artist did to your FI...way too heavy on the foundation and eyes, and I just looked like a clown (and this is coming from someone who wears a full face of makeup every day).  I still laugh when I look at the pics from my trial.  I would recommend finding someone who does airbrush, as it's a lot lighter than regular foundation, and someone who does more "natural" makeup, so her makeup will still look professionally done and a bit more than she usually wears but not over the top.  Sorry I don't have any recommendations, but basically just saying go for airbrush! :)

I highly recommend Kerry Crawford.  She gets a lot of brides who don't want to look like they are even wearing makeup, and just to appear fresh.

My experience with Gina was that my makeup was way too heavy.  I liked Donna Massa but wound up using Jillyan Scarpa because her work was just as good and her pricing for the BP was better.  I would, however, recommend both of them for makeup that is flattering but doesn't look too heavy in person.  My H hates heavy makeup and he really liked my trials with Donna and Jillyan.

For flash photography, you want the foundation to be a little heavier than normal, and heavier mascara too.  You want to finish up with powder to reduce the shine when the light hits the face.  Having it a little heavier won't show up as much in the pics, but you have to like how you like in person to other people too.

I had a trial with Gina Brozon and LOVED it. It was not too heavy at all..I showed her what I wanted, and she did it EXACTLY the way I wanted it.
I also had an airbrush trial with Jillyan Scarpa.. I wasn't crazy about the airbrush, but that's just personal preference.

I also agree with user, the makeup needs to be heavier looking than you'd normally wear, in order to show up well/right in pics.. I would suggest taking a bunch of photos after the makeup is done to see how it looks, rather than what it just looks like in the mirror.. unless she is not concerned with how it looks in photos, and would just rather look more natural in person?

I have pics from my trial with Gina if your fiance would like to see them.

I second Jillyan.  I am using her for my wedding as well.  She is very good at applying the way you ask.  She'll start light and go from there...with how much coverage is necessary and what your fiance likes.  Good luck :)

Gina Brozon also did my makeup way too heavy and it looked pretty ridiculous. Unfortunately Sally Duval is booked on my day, but she was there on the day of my trial with her associate Dominique, and Sally helped Dominique a little with my makeup. All I can say, Sally is expensive, but I would have paid whatever she wanted if she was free. She is AMAZING!

I am Italian/PR too.. The freckles aren't too out of the ord for PR tho... I would reccomend that she does light airbrush and lashes.  She's def going to want to see, at least the lashes, in pics.

I really think it is all personal preference.. what one of us might think as "overdone" someone else might think is fine... You really need to just explain to the MUA clearly what you want, and show them pics of looks you like.

Jillyan Scarpa is a true cosmetic genius.

She and her colleague Michelle did mine and my girls' makeup and everyone looked incredible.  Here one of my prof pics.

    I realize it's hard to see... here's a closeup.
