Should I have painted my bathroom blue?

Initially I wanted to paint the walls a very pale, icy blue. I then got talked out of it, the idea being it would be too much blue. So went with a beige and was going to use various blue wall accents to tie with the blue from the shower. Here's what the shower/wall color looks like currently:

Then I saw this photo and had mega pangs of regret:

Now I'm thinking I want to repaint. That just looks so awesome.

Thoughts?

  • I'd paint it blue!  Yes I would!  A very light blue of course.  It'll look nice.

  • I voted blue, but there's not a single neutral colored wall in my house so I might be a little biased.  I like color. A LOT.

  • I actually really like how the blue pops against the beige, but that's just me!
  • Welp, the great thing about paint is... you can always repaint.  PITA?  Si.  Still an easy change?  ALSO si!!
  • I like the light blue color idea too. Then again, our rooms have some random colors :o)

And as pp said, you can always re-paint if you hate it.

  • I like color too.

Anyone know how to paint behind a toilet? It wasn't installed when I painted initially. The rest shouldn't be too awful.
  • I vote blue, too. When your shower is that kick-ass, there's no such thing as too much blue.

I'd say just get a small like 1-3" flat brush and do it that way. Just tape around all the pipes and what not.

  • Go for the blue!
  • I think they might make brushes to reach behind the toilet.
  • Ooh that would be awesome.

Definitely go with the blue. It would be awesome. I think I just used a brush to paint behind the toilets. PITA, but it got the job done.

  • I just reached as far as I could behind mine.  There's probably still a patch of lime green paint behind it...

  • In my professional opinion, I'd go a blue.  That colour neutral just does nothing for it.  Go for a colour similar to your inspiration photo and use neutrals as accents.  Whites, some tans and dark blues for towels.

I specifically came back to this thread to see what Habs would say. :-)

I actually already have the towels and they are a darker blue (not very dark, just darkish medium I guess). And everything else will be white with a little bit of oranges - starfish and seashells really. Used sparingly.

Why did I let those stupid boys talk me into beige?
  • I like the blue too, but have you thought about another really like color to compliment the blue tile, like green or yellow?
  • I love the blue! Go for it!

  • I love that shade of ice blue.  We painted our kitchen similar to that.  I say go for it!

  • I wouldn't do a different colour for the walls other than blue.  It'll be too much "AHHH" in your face.  The monotone will keep it fresh, funky and stylish without going overboard.

The best way to introduce more than 1 colour, is to do the extra colours in accents, not in large huge statements.

  • I really like the  beige and think it makes the blue pop a lot more than a blue wall would. I'd bring out the blues in your accents -- towels, maybe some art, trash can, tissue holder, etc.

But if you really think you want the blue, do one wall in blue and see what it looks like.

That sounds awesome! I wish we owned our place so we could take out all the old-lady flowered wallpaper and put up fresh paint.

  • bay - got a picture of your kitchen?
  • I like the blue a lot. But if that color does not work out, I say go with white. It could be the picture, but that beige color makes it look kind of outdated. The ice blue of white would really freshen it up :)
  • Ugh.  It's not a great picture, because I took it with my cell phone and the lighting isn't great.

    But here ya go:

  • I concur with Habs.
  • Oooh Bay, that is so pretty! I really need wainscoting like right now.
  • Daff, I'm sorry for this threadjack, but since we're talking about paint...

I've been thinking about repainting my office.  I want to add a chair rail and do the top a very light, creamy yellow and do the bottom a deep blueberryish purple.  Thoughts?
