In Response to Re: Guilty Pleasures : People say that Jimmy Page and Led Zeppelin plagiarized some of their music?! Blasphemy!
Posted by LedZeppelin
Actually yeah - before Led Zeppelin was actually formed, Jimmy Page did a LOT of studio guitar for lots of different bands and artists - several of whom later became famous.  It's been alleged that he would use riffs and melodies or whatever from songs he would play with those bands in music that Led Zeppelin later created.  I actually kinda believe it.  I mean, most of the people Page played for never really became anything, so when Zeppelin started touring and those people raised hell about it - there wasn't really anything anyone could do.  And you couldn't entirely prove it either.

But whether he did rip the music off or not, Page is still a ridiculous guitarist.  I mean seriously.  Who takes a bow to a guitar?  Frick.  He's the shiit.

I just heard on a radio the other morning about a man who is suing after all these years, because he played blues in a night club that Jimmy Page frequented. And when Led was formed Jimmy used one of his songs.
This man had an album, so they played the songs back to back it was the same song. Did it sound better with Robert singing hell yeah, but it was still wrong.
I think it was Ramble On, I'm not positive.

ETA: Jimmy Page is the shiit. Not vanilla ice. haha.

If it was music he wrote, just for another band, is that really plagiarizing? I mean - he did write it.

Honestly, if that's all it was, that really does not taint my view of him whatsoever. I thought it was going to be a vanilla ice type scenario. and like you said, he is still the shiit!

• No - not music he wrote.  Music he played frequently for other blues bands, that wrote it, and that he later used.

Page has actually never denied these allegations - he's actually said that if he did "use" something that he played for someone else, he did what he could to dress it up a bit.

Agreed.

But I make myself feel better for being a fan when I think of it this way - even if Page did rip off some songs, it's clear that those songs were not kickass enough to be hits unless Zeppelin was playing them.  Because obviously, if they were awesome when their previous artists were playing them... then they'd be famous.  Right?

Meh.  Ramble on... :)

But my job is out of control with people bringing in treats everyday.  The faculty room is like an obstacle course.

We have some crazy programs. Family Life Services (once known as home ec) consists of Gourmet Cooking, Fashion Design, and Childcare Development. The plus is that the Childcare development is actually a day care which runs 8:45am until 4:00 pm (school day) so most of the teachers just take their kids there and only pay like, $100 a month for day care.
