Guest list too small for venues

My FI and I are looking to keep the guest list around 50 for several reasons.  We are paying for it ourselves and I'm totally not into the frilly details, I'd like to keep it small and intimate.  The problem I'm running into is that most places have a minimum of 100.  I'm totally willing to go outside of Syracuse (like there is one place in Mexico that seems promising) but I don't want to stray too far from home.  Any ideas???

I don't have any great suggestions for you, but have you looked at renting out a small restaurant or other places that are not typical wedding venues?

I suggest it a lot, but Borios is my starter. I had my rehearsal dinner there. My grandparents had their 50th anniversary there. They have a smaller room, its on the lake. Great food, beautiful view. Totally recommend it.

    Maybe Justins Grill.

I thought the woman with a total b!tch but Dibbles Inn in Vernon has a small room.

Wysockis in Cicero is where I had my wedding, they have a smaller room

Theres a place in Cazenovia and its completely escaping me but they have a variety of sizes. Its like a house and they'll use rooms appopriate to your party size. It was beautiful but didnt fit what I was going for. *Had to ask Josh...Lincklaen House. BEAUTIFUL!

    Just a few

Many of the more popular wedding venues are a little more lax during the off season and off-days (Fridays, Sundays)... I really haven't heard of a minimum # of guests, but I have heard of a minimum $$ spent at the place.

Like Sarah said, maybe just browse smaller venues (restaurants, smaller banquet facilities, small wineries)... or check some of the others for relaxed rules on off days or off season.

We were running into a similar problem with 60 guests and no one would allow us to utilize their facilities because of our wedding date which is July 4, 2012.  We ended up renting a huge victorian house on the St Lawrence river in Alexandria Bay, We will have a huge tent, the lawn, the dock area, and the wrap around porches of the victorian to party on.

Just another thought if there are large rental houses in your area.

My mom came across Madison Hall in Morrisville.  I believe I read that they do smaller weddings but I think they start at $500.

We checked out Camp Brockway at Pratt's Falls but didn't think a ceremony would work there.  Would be cute if just having a reception.  Cost is $325 for 10 hours.

The Skyline Lodge has a room for 50 people, but you can only book it 6 months in advance and only if the entire room isn't being used (the room can hold over 100 total and I think there is a sliding wall or something).  Its $185 from May - Dec - and probably impossible to get on a Saturday.  If you're willing to do your wedding Mar- Apr you can rent out the whole room for $195, bigger half for $150, and smaller half for $100.  I was really toying with this idea myself.  :)

If we don't end up eloping, we're looking to have between 50 and 80 people... so I feel your pain.  I searched for weeks and really didn't come up with many options.   Currently the plan is to just have it in my parent's backyard... but that could change by tomorrow.  :)

We are having our reception at the Dinosaur BBQ - they have an upstairs that's redone and super cool.  They have two different rooms you can use and I don't think there's a minimum number of guest requirement.  It's also very affordable and who doesn't love the Dinosaur???

I second Dino.  Nom Nom NOMMMMMM.  I would have loved to have my RD/WD there, but they were booked.  It really is a great, fun venue with amazing food.  Totally untraditional, but would totally rock.  Seriously.

If you are willing to go to Utica, check out the Blue Flag Room.

The Delta Lake Inn is also very nice, and is near Rome.

Have you looked at the Oneida Community Mansion?

I love Dinosaur BBQ, but can't imagine trying to eat it in my wedding dress! lol
