What's for Dinner?

Re: What's for Dinner?

  • Creme of mushroom soup is my go to fave for a lot of my cooking and casseroles.  I do a "cheat" on crawfish pie with left over crawfish from our boils.

I peel and rough chop the crawfish. I also rough chop any left over onions, garlic and mushrooms from the boil, cook them down in butter. Add a can of creme of mushroom soup, reduce that a little then pour it into a pie plate lined with pie crust (the sheets). Top with the other crust, make cute slits and bake at 375 until the crust is brown and some of the mix is bubbling out of the slits.
I serve it with fresh french bread.

    It's awesome.
  • Do you coat the pork chops in flour or anything before throwing them in the pan like that Nebb?
  • I have to confess that I love Shake and Bake porkchops with mac n cheese. Oh and green beans on the side.

Nope, no flour, but my pan is a sort of cast iron one (but that is shiny if that makes sense) and that might be why it browns up so good. I usually do it at a high heat until it starts browning a bit, then I do it at medium. Once its all cooked the way I want, I crank it back up to high until its as brown as I want (without burning). Trust me, it tastes like ASS if you burn it.

I made BBQ chicken pizza.  I have very limited talents as far as cooking goes, and H is a pretty picky eater.

Also, this may be an UO, but I'm not a fan of Skyline.  It tasted mushy to me.

ETA: Okay, so mushy isn't a taste, but you get what I mean.

</div><div>I still buy Cap'n Crunch with Crunchberries on occasion. Although they aren't as good as they used to be.  I think its the corn syrup. Things used to be made with cane sugar. That's hard to come by these days.</div>
  • What is Skyline?

For you Shake & Bake girls - I crunch is some Durkee's Fried Onions in with dry mix.  If you like onions,  it's way good.

[QUOTE]Now I want pork chops for dinner.  Nebb the brown bits make everything taste better.  I'm still at work and am starving.  It's been crazy here today.  But I'm headed out to the store to pick up something for dinner.  I was thinking pasta but now I don't know.  Whatever it is I need some broccoli or asparagus to go with it.  We had artichokes last night that were the shiitt.

</div><div>Maybe bowtie pasta and toss in the asparagus with it and some butter...just butter. Season to taste.

  • I am also not a fan of Skyline.

Skyline is a restaurant that serves "Cincinnati-style chili". Which is basically a sweet spaghetti sauce. They then put this over spaghetti and usually will pile on onions and shreded cheese. I think I just hate it because it's not chili and they try to pass it off like it is.

I also think it's just the Detroit in me trying to hate on Cincinnati.

  • Evening ladies.

H and I've been sick, some kind of chest cold. So, I had a weird dinner, strawberries, apples and peanut butter. I have no appetite.

Called off work yesterday, went in today to get caught up from being off for 5 days and my boss made me go home.

    How are you ladies?

  • I really hope someone gets us the stainless cookware set we registered for so I can get nice crunchy brown bits too. My non-stick doesn't do it for me anymore.

I just got an enamel dutch oven and I am super excited to try it out. Unfortunately it's been too hot here to actually do so. Does anyone have a favorite dutch oven recipe?

Must add artichokes to the list for next week. I like braising baby ones but they're a major pita to prep. May just steam some big ones.

Mmmm love me some coney dogs.

Feel better KD. For what it's worth I think strawberries, apples and PB sounds pretty good for dinner.

Until we registered for the wedding, I never knew that a dutch oven was a real thing.  I only knew about it in terms of farts.  It never occurred to me to wonder where the phrase actually came from.<div>

This is the first time he's making these sandwiches, and I can't wait to try them.
