Show me your Christmas decorations

Inside, please (though if you want to AW your outside decorations, I'd love to see those too!). We're having Christmas this year, and I've never decorated (never had the space to, until this year). So I'm starting totally from scratch and I need some ideas!

I want to see everyone's, but I'm especially interested in how you decorate if you have naughty kitties.

I don't make an kitty compromises.

Luckily, my kitties can be shamed.

*Kitty came to investigate
*Kitty attempted to chew on my 8ft symbol of Christmas
*I said, "Oh Charley!" with a "you should be ashamed" voice
*Charley has sulked since. She's mad that the tree got her in trouble
*Lucy just wants to sit by the tree and watch the lights.

See, I wanted to make sure I posted this during the day when people would be here. But I didn't think about people not having pictures of their Christmas decorations at home while they're at work.

Today is not my best day for thinking before I post.

We have no mantel, so I normally hang our 3 stockings on the frame of the front door blinds, and the antique stockings from my grandmothers house from the picture window's vertical blinds. I have a scherenschitte (I think that's how it's spelled) rendition of the 12 Days of Christmas I hang up, a wreath I made for the front door, and a tree of course.

I don't know how much is going up this year, since we're not spending Christmas at home.

Bax just climbs around under the tree and steps on every present. I also suspect that he chewed on some tissue paper. It looks suspicious, but not ripped apart.

We don't do too much though. Our dogs hate christmas trees and try to eat them so we just do a tiny one on an end table. We do have a display with a nativity and various christmas keepsakes from our childhoods.

Oh, kitty wise, FILs have 4-5 at any given time because FSIL loves to adopt them. They leave a foot or two of decoration free tree bottom so they don't bat at them. They don't seem to be all that interested in tree climbing, so it works.

Yeah I have lots of pics on my home computer, because my mom wanted to see how we had decorated. So I will PIP a little later tonight. You can see part of our tree in the SS AW post I did yesterday.

I don't have many decorations out this year, and I probably won't put any more up. No tree this year! The one thing I put out every year, no matter what, is a small nativity carved out of olive wood from Jerusalem.

Thanks! The one I have looks nicer I think. The color of the wood is much better. My mom got it for me several years back, when I first started college and was missing family around the holidays. She gave it to me and said "Now you can think of us and know you'll never be alone even when you're by yourself."

Wrkn, I like that tree a lot. I'm pretty traditional in my own Christmas decorating (red and green and the like) but I've always appreciated the non-traditional things and I've seen some really cool ones.

Thanks J&K. I like odd colors, themes and matching.
Multi-color lights annoy me for some reason...

It had been lovingly dubbed my Gay Pride tree by my old roomies.
But I added the blue and purple bow on top this year, so it's a little less purple.

I like themes and matching too! I don't care for multi-colored lights unless they're red, green, and white. I don't really like the rainbow ones, because orange and blue and purple aren't Christmas colors, and if you're going to go non-traditional, I think you should pick a color or color family. But I'm a little compulsive like that, so I know I'm not normal.

My Tree

The tree I help put up at my parents

I don't know if you have a tree skirt yet, but if you buy one, I would make sure it's soft cotton. Some of them have a rough feel/sound to them. My bad cat like to run circles around those tree skirts to make the noise. I had to swap it out last year. Her laps under the tree broke about 10 ornaments.

That's a great tip about the tree skirt, dmiller! Our naughty loves crinkly sounds too.
