Recently Engaged/Palm Beach

I just got engaged and I do not know what to do next I need a step in the right direction. Both of us have big families so I know our guest list is going to be outrageous. We haven't talked about much yet especially budget nor have we set a date. We are in the palm beach county area and would like ideas/suggestions (vendors etc.)anything at this point. We plan on getting married at our church so any reception ideas would be appreciated (especially if it would allow us to bring our own food/caterer.)

Congrats on your engagement! The first important step in wedding planning is figuring out a budget which you and FI (or whoever will pay) feel comfortable investing on your wedding. This will help you figure out how much you want to spend on venue, catering, flowers, dj, and etc. Also, it will help you avoid any heartache and keep you within your budget.

I'm not too familiar with the WPB area but since you mentioned a big guest list....how about checking out the Spanish River Library in Boca. I love the rooftop and you can bring in your own caterer. Another good option which will give you more than enough room for you and your guests is the Borland Center. I believe you can bring in your own catering but I would double check.
  • I second the deciding a firm budget and guest list before looking. My FI and I did not get my dad to do that (he is paying for the venue, food & catering) and I had my dreams crushed when the budget my dad offered was not large enough to do the venue I had fallen in love with. I eventually found a lovely venue that I'm very happy about, but there will always be a part of me that wishes and wonders what if? in regards to the other one.
Do not allow this to happen to you! Decide a budget, stick with it, and then figure out a semi-firm guest list so you know what you have to spend per guest. GL!
  • Yes, totally agree with budget. You don't know if the number of guests will lower the quality of the reception ie entertainment, open bar, etc. I don't know what religion you practice but I am doing a catholic ceremony and I am paying for it. It would have been cheaper and I would have flexibility in the time. But it's important to me so I will bear with it.

  • Budget first, then start prowling the forums for reviews on vendors!

    Congrats!
