Which registry to pick?

Hi Everyone!

It's a little early for me to register, but was wondering where people were going for  their registries and if they had any feelings one way or another (whether buying for other friend's weddings or their own)? And how many places is it appropriate to register at?

My FI and I are going to be living in a city apartment for the first few years while I finish up school, so no room for fine china just yet. We definitely need linens, towels, bedding, some good kitchen equipment/electronics (FI LOVES to cook, yay I get out of that hahah!).  I'd like to register for some vases, frames, "pretty stuff" on the more decorative side.  Between the two of us, we have a LOT of dishes and glasses so we don't really have to register for that.

Thanks!

  • For cooking - Williams-Sonoma would be great!  You could get cookware/decorative items from Crate & Barrel as well.  Bed, Bath & Beyond or Macy's (I'd go with the latter for linens) are all great places for items and I've been pleased with B,B & B, C & B and Macy's.. no problem with returning damaged items, etc.

  • Macy's, BBB and Crate and Barrel would serve all those purposes!  Personally, I chose BBB and Macy's.  Start looking around on their web sites and see what products you like.  Like the poster above, I agree that Macy's seems like they have better quality in terms of linens.  Have fun!

  • We're going to do Target and BBB. I think 2 is a good number to have, 3 is fine, but I wouldn't do more than that and I wouldn't go with just one.

As a guest for many weddings, I really appreciate chain stores that most mid-size cities have like BBB, Macy's or Target. Lots of citiies don't have places like Crate and Barrel or IKEA. If most of your guests are from your city, you could pick those places if you have them. I guess if many guests are comfortable buying online, you could register anywhere. But just keep in mind what stores your guests have easy access to. We went to one wedding where they registered for hardly anything at Target and everything else was at Crate and Barrel, which we don't have, so we just gave money (still a good gift!). But it can be frustrating for guests.

  • We registered at BB&B, C&B, and Sears.  BB&B and C&B were great for home gifts (bedding, dishes, glassware, linens).  We used Sears for some tools and home improvement gadgets for H.
