[QUOTE]Weddings don't need a theme. If you have one that naturally flows out of your relationship with your FI, great. But if not, the theme is "we're getting married."

This is me, totally. Our wedding has gotten really theme-crazy. But it's easy to do since we started with Halloween and are getting married in an old movie theater. But "classic" is sooo not us, we always like to do things a little wacky. :) And my goal from the beginning has been to have our guests leaving saying "I have never been to a wedding like that, it was so fun." And I think we're going to accomplish that.

I agree that the "look at the sticky" comment is getting a bit over used and squashes conversation.

My flame, there seems to be two new knotties who know each other, and are posting some random cryptic messages. It's odd.

Anna, I would never flame you or Lauren for your themes. Those are unique and personal to you and your situations.

I'm talking about how some brides think they NEED a theme in some way and then it just comes off as overdone and forced. Just because you love gaming, old movies, golf, Dr. Pepper, Chicago, etc., it doesn't all have to be in your wedding.

Yep, just got a new one...

    I flame a former co-worker of mine...

I am aware that she wanted to invite me to her wedding when she started planning it a year ago. However, I am also aware that things change and you must cut people to fit into your budget... since I am low-priority (just a former coworker)... I knew I'd get cut. Her wedding is 28 days away.

    My problem? I received a save-the-date. 3 months ago.

And today, I receive a (mass) email from her wedding website reminding everyone to book their rooms.

Now, I also know that I was not invited (and the invititation didn't just get lost in the mail) since another former co-worker mentioned the bride specifically saying that she had to cut all of the other co-workers (me, included).

THEN DON'T SEND ME A STD... OR A REMINDER EMAIL! Cmon honey, you're getting sloppy.

Brianna, that reminds me of a girl I went to college with. My friends and I all got STDs for her wedding, which was to be held on a Saturday. So I made plans to be there. Then, when the actual invitations came, she had changed the date to that Sunday, and I had already made plans. So ended up not going to the wedding. And another friend got the STD but not an invitation!

So weird... I thought that was like a basic thing... you send a STD after you finalize the date.

And if you send a STD, you have to send an invite.

It just seems tacky to me to do it any other way!

I'm guessing that this may be pointed at me, in which case, I won't offer a rebuttal (that just creates drama). One constructive comment I'll throw out there re: FFF - has there been any thought about renaming the day? The themes for each day were a part of the board when I first started reading it, but a lot has changed since then - there's a whole new group of brides, a new mod, etc. If people don't care for the theme, maybe it's worth changing it?

I think a lot of people still love the flaming, but I could really go for something like "Random Thoughts Friday." Sometimes I just have random things on my mind that don't really fit anywhere else. But I guess that's what SA Wednesday is for.

I'm going to have to disagree here... just because it's a new group of brides/mod/what-have-you doesn't mean that the spirit of FFF can't turn a little more friendly. We're not a board of rudeness or super-snark, so I think that our FFF fits our group well.

My point was just that if someone want to flame traffic, or the weather, or whatever... they can. Nothing about FFF means you are required to flame other people on the boards.

Per my nifty little FAQ Sticky:

FFF (Flame Free Friday) - This is where you can flame something or someone and not get any flack for it. Sometimes you will anyway...but it's all in fun and you can get your frustrations out.

ps - that definition was written by the old mod... since we're going there!

I wasn't saying any repurposing had to be snarky... I was under the impression that the reason it was Flame Free Friday was that you could flame something and you would be free from other people ganging up on you for saying it. (Which is why my comment about "you're doing it wrong" was in a Confessions thread.) So from that reading, one should only flame things that are actually controversial (otherwise, what's the point of designating it as free from further attacks?). So rather, what I was suggesting is maybe it should just be FF (Flame Friday) or something along those lines, where it's totally ok to flame anything you want, including the weather or other people who flame you.

It was merely a suggestion given that others have made similar comments like "Don't post an AW in a B&M." My comment was based on observation, not criticism.

WHY do people ask this? Randoms have seriously come out of the woodwork like termites in the past month asking about the plans, dress, FOOD as if they have already received an invite. Hmmm, hadn't planned on inviting you--mostly because this is the first conversation we've had, and don't be so bold as to assume that you are going to get an invite. If you approach me LATER and ask why you didn't get one, I will reserve the right to ask you something just as rude and ridiculous.

I don't plan on paying $40/plate or more for someone I really couldn't care less about seeing on the biggest day of my life. I really don't even to care to see you on any other day, but I'm paid to put up with you. Those that are invited know that they will be, and don't even have to ask. FYI.

There's a woman at work who is not invited (and knows she's not invited) and has a habit of asking me not only about all the little details, but about how much things cost! She asked me about the cost of my dress and my venue and my hair and makeup! I tell her because I have nothing to hide, I don't care if she thinks I'm extravagant or cheap, but it's still irritating!
