MG's or anyone--How long to change everything over?

I am getting married next Saturday. I have a business trip planned for the week of August 15th-so about a month after. I am just not sure how long it takes to switch things over so I don't know if I should book the trip with my old name or my new name. Obviously, my ID has to match.

Thoughts?

I would say wait until you get back from your trip to change your ID, just in case you run into some sort of issue you didn't foresee in the process. It's better to be safe than sorry.

You can use your passport as ID (if you have one)..so you could change your license meanwhile if you wanted to.

We had a European trip booked for July 2010, since we were only married in April  I booked everything in my maiden name. I would book in your maiden name to be safe, and change everything when you come home.

Igot around to changing my name on my driver's license and SS card, etc. in September 2010, and I finally got my passport changed in June 2011. We took a road trip to Montreal in November 2010 ... my DL and passport had two different names so I brought our marriage license just in case, but all they wanted to see was the passport.

I decided to change my name right away since we had most of our checks from the wedding written in my new name and I wanted to get a new account with that name opened in the bank.  I sent out my new passport information in the middle of june and was a little worried about getting it back in time for our honeymoon in the beginning of August.  The passport people assured me it would be fine and it came at the beginning of this week with plenty of time.  I would check the timeline for passports, and if it looks like it will be tight, just keep it in your maiden name for now.

If you're traveling for work within the US then just changing your name on your DL is fine. I had to do this since I've been doing the name change process s l o w l y and I got "caught" in that the systems at work have me listed by my married name and so it automatically booked my flight using that. I went to the DMV and changed it in a few hours. The rest of my wallet still had my maiden name (credit cards, etc.) and it was fine.

Like mbc though, I did carry a copy of the marriage certificate with me in case, but I never needed it.

ETA: The only confusion was when I was leaving the airport with the rental car and the name it was reserved under was my married name, but my Amex had my maiden name. I explained the situation and they were fine with it. Terrible security? Probably.

The only problem is it could take longer to get the marriage certificate, and without that, you cannot change your driver's license.
OP - if I were you, i'd just make the reservation in your maiden name. After the wedding, if you wanted to change your driver's license before your trip (and have the marriage certificate already), you could do that.
When you go on your trip, international, or not, you could use your passport for ID since it would still have your maiden name on it. You don't have to have a driver's license.

I am taking my honeymoon 4 months after the wedding, but I am waiting to change over my IDs and stuff until after that since the trip is booked under my maiden name.
