Worth the Risk to Order Bridesmaid dresses from China??

I am so tempted to order my bridesmaid dresses from one of the "China sites" Most all of the dresses are made in China anyways, they are just not authorized dealers, and the dresses are more than half the price cheaper than in the bridal stores. All of my bridesmaids live out of town and will be paying travel expenses for my wedding, so I'm trying to be as budget conscious for them as possible. How come the moment you put the word wedding, bride or bridesmaid on anythign it seriosuly goes up in value 2, 3, 4 times! Sorry had to vent about that! lol. I've seen mixed reviews on this. The dress I like is a La Femme dress and it is about $320/dress in stores. I would never ask my girls to pay that, but on this "China site" it is only $120....Almost worth the risk i think. The site is dress4hot.com and they have been very very helpful answering questions for me via their live chat. They have put in writing to me they can guarantee the exact color of the LaFemme dress and will hand make the dress with the gir's exact measurements over just choosing a size 6, 8 12, etc. I've read reviews from others have posted on the dress and people seem happy with their purchase and they seem to be written by real people. I have a very sepcific color in mind which has proven so hard to find. I'm using a lot of orchids, so I want the dress to go with my fuchsia/magenta orchids. The dress in the picture is the color to a "t" that I'm looking for and is so hard to find since most deisgners seems to have a hot barbie pink or a darker sangira color. I need advice, is it worth the risk???? Has anyone had success or a disasterwith a site like this?

  • I personally wouldn't risk it. It would be a disaster if it went wrong.

  • You have no way of knowing who owns these companies.  Do you want your money going to some sweatshop that employs little kids in unsafe conditions?  Do you want your money to support criminal activity like drug trafficking, terrorism, or human trafficking?   At any rate, making knock-offs of designer gowns is illegal.   Not all of these companies have ties to hardcore criminal activities, but you have no way of knowing which ones do and which do not.   In my opinion, no cheap bridesmaid dress is worth that price.

  • Honestly....I ordered mine from China, however they weren't knockoffs of another brand. I personally would never buy a knock off because I have a really guilty conscience. Ultimately it's your decision, whatever you're comfortable with.

  • I'll be honest I'd change my colors before I'd send my money to China.

    I wouldnt risk it.

  • Nope, I wouldn't do it.  Not only would I be concerned about the "disaster" factor, but I believe in shopping local, supporting small business, and buying American.  (When possible)
  • NO WAY !! ... Order from Atlanta Bride Couture in Alpharetta, GA 404-229-8690.  They have all the vendors and you will save $50-$100 per dress depending on which vendor you select.
  • maybe order just one and see if everything goes well. also do a search on google to see if the company has any reviews.
  • Check sitejabber.com for reviews of the site.

Did you look into how much shipping and customs fees are? Although the dress is much cheaper, you may get hit with $50 or $75 in fees just to get the dress here.

Have you checked Etsy for dresses? There are a lot of different clothing makers on there and even if they are in another part of the world, you can see how many sales they have had and all of that business.

Just don't. Of all the salons, stores and boutiques. . . I'm sure you will find what you love in a reputable store.

  • Thank you for encouraging me not to risk it! Thanks for the link of netbride.com. I ended up ordering an Alfred sung dress from them for $110 per dress! Which is a steal! They have a store in the US and are accredited by the BBB. One less thing I need to stress about now!
