Picked up my dress!!! Steaming??

Hey Girls!!

I had my final fitting with Linda Hine yesterday! My dress is absolutely PERFECT!!! She did such an amazing job! I love how picky she was after I had the dress on. There were a few minor lumps in the waist area, and she was able to fix the dress in 10 minutes! It really couldn't fit any better and I highly recommend her!!

Now it's time to get the dress steamed in the next few weeks. Where are you taking your dress?

I was considering Dublin Cleaners in Powell. Linda had mentioned Wedding Dress Specialist out of Gahanna. I called them this am, and they had said if I brought my dress in today, they could give me a price within a week (has to be priced by management) and then the service itself could take "a week or two." I wasn't impressed with their customer service, and I only have 3 weeks to go to get the steaming done.

    I used Dublin Cleaners. I've used Wedding Specialists/Clothing Care for other things before and they were too expensive and take forever for jobs that can be done in a few days. Had a good experience overall with Dublin Cleaners and have my review of them posted below.

    I hade my 2nd fitting with Linda yesterday, lol!   I was the 5:30 slot. :)

    I was wondering about the home personal steamers for day of touch ups on wrinkles... have you guys heard about anyone doing this? is it ok? is it not?  I was planning on going to dublin cleaners and then using my personal steamer for day of stuff.

    I have a home steamer, and it works amazing on everyday clothes, but I would have never used it on my wedding dress. Sometimes home steamers can spit water when not used properly and it would be a shame to have permanent water stains on your dress. I've used it to steam BM dresses before. If you're going to go that route though, just be sure to steam silk satin or satin poly from underneath the dress, and if you are steaming something that's raw/matte silk or silk chiffon hold the steamer away from the garment and don't let the steamer touch it. 

    I had my wedding dress ready for pick up the day before the wedding and brought it right to the church where we were getting ready and hung it so it wasn't touching the ground. Looking back at everything that happened the morning of the wedding, I would never have had time to go over it again with a steamer anyways!

    I had my gown steamed at the Alteration Station at Polaris and was really pleased with the result. They took extremely good care of my gown. I was a little surprised at the cost. I think it was around $80....but at that point I was writing so many checks and swiping the card so many times that I just carried on. :)

    Good luck! We just got back from our honeymoon.

    I've heard good things about Columbus Lace - my mother had her dress done there and it is the only place my seamstress will recommend. They also have a coupon on their website.

    Oh PS - forgot to add they said they prefer two weeks but can do one if needed and that was for me to get my dress steamed and cleaned.
