Anyone up?

It's been a LONG tech week.  Tonight was actually the earliest I've gotten home since we did an invited dress rehearsal and had a small audience.  It went really well, a few bumps and bruises (the cast has a tendency to drop cues or jump entrances in the music) which is stressful for me as the conductor to get the pit orchestra to jump with them.  But I'm looking forward to opening night nevertheless.

Any other night owls out there?

  • Been a long week for me too! At least I have a martini to celebrate the fact that my university campus is closed tomorrow, lol. That's awesome you're involved in theater! What play, or performance?

  • I'm not a regular here, I lurk more, but I am still up and at work until 7am. It's going to be a long night.

Nice to have a Friday off!  Martini sounds good.  My H makes a good one, very strong.

I'm the MD for a regional production of "Children of Eden".  It's part of an education program so the cast is mostly late high school / early college, with a couple of Equity guys included.

  • Thank you, I'm a monitor tech. I watch the heart monitors, it can get a little boring at night. I basicly stare at squiggly lines for 12 hours. Your job seem much more interesting.

Lol Your H has my respect. I make an excellent apple martini - a recipe that, oddly enough, my grandfather taught me. I love high school theater. :) It inspires kids.

I will say it's pretty cool to be indulging my passion for musical theater and getting paid to do it.  I just need to figure out how to do it a little more.  I've only been freelancing for a few months after years of administrative work.

  • Do you participate in plays also? I hate getting up in front of people, I blush so easily. I told FI that he has to do our Thank you speech at the wedding, lol. I dreaded having to do speeches in school.

I usually serve as musical director and conductor, sometimes I get hired just to play piano or keyboards in a pit.  I don't act anymore although I did in HS.  I don't mind public speaking - I had to do it a bunch in my admin job, and at one point during my MA program I got to teach a couple of courses so I have some lecture experience too.

Apple martini sounds heavenly.  And I agree, it's fun to see some of the kids in the cast really get into it and connect to each other and the material.
