The dreaded non machinable stamp!

We just mailed 2 of our invites to our parents to make sure they get there ok, and the bow makes a small bump...no problem it was only 20 cents extra, but the stamped it with that bright red stamp! There is nothing I can really do at this point. ALL the invites are sealed and stamped and ready to go. Not very happy about this....you would think the post office would have a better solution than that! She said we could try sending one the regular way and have it go through the machine but then I worry that it will be in pieces!

    What is the bright red stamp? Did you not have enough postage so they had to add additional? Just curious, because I'm trying to avoid the bright red stamp everyone keeps talking about!

    Agreed.  I haven't sent mine out yet, so can someone post a pic of this?!  I wonder how my STDs looked.....

    My invites have a bump in them...this means that they can not go through the sorting machine. I have enough postage on them. If they go through the machine they could end up ripped and torn, so the post office's solution is to put a bright red stamp on the front and back of you envelope that says "nonmachinable" on them. This is to prevent people from sending them through the machine.

    The bright red "non-machinable" stamp is used on square letters that cannot go through the sorting machines or for letters you don't want to send through.  If you really don't want it, I would highly suggest sending one to yourself (or your parents) through the mail to test it.  

    Honestly, it's really not that big of a deal to me.  Everyone usually throws out the envelope anyways (assuming you have an inner envelope).  I couldn't find a picture through a simple google image search though.

    No inner envelope...I think they are a waste...I did put the names of the people invited on the envelope since I did not use them. Yes I know people throw the evelope away. I have thought of sending one to myself but FI really dosen't want to waste the postage or invite in case we need it....

    We found out about the big red stamp this weekend too. I'm sending two of my BMs invites today, through the machine, as a test to see how beat up they get. We also have a small bump. We'll see how it goes.

    I would just try to sent it our regular.  I send cards with bows and things and have never had a problem.

    Send one through the machine to one of your BM's since you'd be sending them one anyways, and they can understand the situation!

    My Aunt works at a post office and after telling her about it...she said to just bring them to her and she would mail them for me and that her post office does not "red light" (Her term) invites. So maybe ask if they use that stamp or try multiple post offices? My bridal shower is July 28th so I'll bring them to her then and send them out!
