Catholic Churches

Hello Ladies!

I'm not quite new to the boards, but have only been lurking until now! My FI and I have been engaged for a couple months but haven't really finalized any plans yet! Currently we are looking for a Catholic church to get married in and our only problem is that neither of us are members at a church, though we do go regularly to either Sacred Heart in Shadyside or St Pauls in Oakland. However, it seems like alot of the chuches around downtown ask that you have your own priest perform the ceremony if your not a member. This is a problem, as we really don't have a priest that we could ask to do that.  Can anyone suggest any churches in the downtown or close suburb vicinity where you would not have to have your own priest do the ceremony? Thanks!!

If you regularly attend one of those churches, why not just join and become a member?

I looked at about a dozen churches in and around the Pittsburgh area, Sacred Heart, St. Paul's, and others and all of them, if you are not a member, require you have your own priest perform the ceremony.  My fiance is close with two priests from outside the city growing up, so one of them is performing the ceremony for us.  As @kat112 mentioned, your best bet is join a church and become a member.  I think you'd be hard pressed to find a Catholic priest who will marry you if you aren't practicing members of a parish.  Sorry I don't have a better recommendation!

We got married at Saint Peter Church in the North Shore. Gorgeous Church!
We had to bring our own priest, but I ended up calling a parish by me and talking to the priest. He was more than happy to marry us as long as we joined the Parish. I'd be happy to give you his info.

I also think you can get married without belonging at St. Stanislaus in the Strip District. I believe the priest there marries you.

Your best bet is to join a parish and have the priest there marry you at whatever Church you choose, but you might be too late for the priests at St. Paul's and Sacred Heart.

You can try St. Rosalia in Greenfield, St. Regis in Oakland (that's the one I used), or anything else close by. The Diocese requires that you join a Church in your geographical location, so if you live in Shadyside, you won't be able to join a Church Downtown.

Crafton and Coraopolis have some really pretty Catholic churches that might be worth looking into depending on what area is convenient for you

Thanks for all the advice ladies! Since we actually just bought a house in the North Hills, we decided to join St Sebastian's and get married there! We were able to get our date reserved there for July 9, 2011! It feels wonderful to finally have a wedding date!
