    My fiance and I were having this conversation the other day, and we decided only the people in serious relationships are allowed for plus one since we only want to invite the people who we're close with or somewhat close with and also to stay within our budget.
    All in all, it's up to you Smile, your fiance, and your budget.

    We're inviting couples that we know to be serious couples (regardless of whether they're dating/engaged/married) as couples.  People we know are currently single are getting invited as singles, but if something changes before the RSVP date and they ask to bring someone, we'll let them.  For budget reasons, we can't really offer a +1 to everyone and tempt people to scrounge up a non-SO date that we've never met and have to feed, but we hope our friends know we're cool enough that they can ask!
