I really don't think it is hypocritical.  The issue isn't that she's knotting at her JOB it's that she's knotting at a job where not paying attention can have negative effects on children.

Whereas I'm sitting at a desk in an almost empty office and if this flyer gets created now or 10 minutes from now there will be no huge consequence to the world.

I do have stuff to do.  I have deadlines I'll need to meet.  If I manage my time poorly, I'll be here late or working on the weekend to get it done.  If I don't (Which I won't), I'll be leaving as soon as my pre demo meeting is done.

But it's pretty easy to start stuff on my computer and let it run while I play here.  I'm responsible for managing my time.  If my coworkers need something from me, that gets done first before I knot.  I don't go to meetings and knot while I'm expected to be participating in the meeting.

    That there is the difference.

[QUOTE]OWN- I agree. I sat through that whole video thing that went through the "timeline" of what happened, and I was very disappointed with the ending. Plus if that really was his.... it was... lopsided. Or something.

  • I think everybody is assuming she sits in a classroom full of kids all day.  My BFF is a reading teacher that does mini-sessions.  Half of her day is with kids.  The other half is lessons plans, grading papers, etc.  So it's entirely possible that she's knotting during that time.  One of my mom's friends is a high school teacher.  She gets at least one period each semester, sometimes two, to do paperwork.

That would be great, but we're not assuming.  She's flat out said that she knots with kids in the room during her teaching periods.

Hmm.  I take that back then, but I still think knotting at work to rip on someone for knotting at work is stupid.  That's just my opinion, and I'm entitled to it even if everyone else thinks I'm wrong.

  • I would like to flame my parents for NOT calling me yet today (it's my b-day).  My mom has done this the past few years with lame excuses like "Well, you always call me after football games" or "You call me when you land after a flight."

It's still my birthday! You could leave a voicemail.

Okay, I know this sounds bratty, and they're probably waiting until after work, since I am CLEARLY getting something accomplished.

When I was in middleschool (can't remember what grade). On my birthday my mom got me up. I got ready for school. Ate breakfast with her, went through our whole routine and the whole time I kept wondering when she was gonna say something about my birthday. Finally we get to school, she pulls into the lot and tells me the usual "Ok, I love you. Have a great day". I start crying in the car and she looks at me completely clueless and was like "What's wrong with you??" I tell her its my birthday. She turns completely red-faced and felt horrible. She was almost kept me home because she felt so bad. Lol. Every year she loves to tell that story to everyone :D

  • Nugget, it's not that she's knotting at work.  It's that she's knotting at work while there are students in her classroom who clearly need help as their test scores are too low.  I don't knot during meetings or when somebody's in my cube.  I knot in between other tasks, when the only person I'm impacting is ME.  If she wants to knot during planning period or during class change, cool.  And I said that earlier.  I just think it's not a great idea to do that while she has students in her classroom.

As for the mini-lesson idea - she indicated that she does a mini-lesson, assigns HW, and then plops in her chair and knots.  Not mini-lesson, small activity to reinforce, repeat, repeat, change class.  If they're only getting a mini-lesson every day, how are they covering enough stuff?  Mini-lessons would be reasonable if there were more than one.
