Card Box Question

I would love to have a (smaller) vintage suitcase set up to act as our card box but as I was thinknig about it today - do guests typically bring cards to destination weddings? This might be a silly question but I don't have experience with this and would hate to lug another thing with us to Hawaii if it isn't necessary :)

Thoughts?

Hello from 30,000 feet :D  We had 3-4 cards from about 30 couples/parties, but no money in any of them  Most people mailed them either before or after, or not at all.  Only 1 person brought a gift, which was a painting from a local Hawaiian artist.  I don't think we missed out by not having a card box.  We told the coordinator to use the program basket if need be -- not sure if it even got used.

Now the AHR was a different story :)  Probably 100+ cards in there.

Sorry to hijack, but where do you put the card box at the reception? Does it go on the table with the guest book?

We only had about 30 guests, so I was worried that folks wouldn't use our "basket" (we used a wrought iron antique), but it was actually quite full by the end.  I think it's a good idea to have something just in case.  If you have a creative and unique idea (such as the vintage suitcase), I say go for it!  :)  You could always ask a friend or relative to bring it for you (which is what we did), so it doesn't take up your luggage space.

breaness - we put ours on the welcome table, along with guestbook and escort cards

Thank you for your responses! I think I will go ahead and look for a cute vintage suitcase and if it is small enough we will bring it along. If it doesn't end up in Hawaii, we will definitely be using it at our AHR.

Yeah, we didn't get many cards either - maybe 3-4 as well.

I don`t think we'll get many cards either but i purchased a vintage serving bowl with lid from a seller on Etsy so if it is empty it will just be a decor item...no worries. HTH! J. :-)

We got a card from almost every couple--so say 15 cards.  I had bought a crystal bowl to put the card in on wedding day, but everyone surprised me by giving their cards at the rehearsal dinner.  So, despite the number of cards we got, the crystal bowl still didn't get used.
