Non-Maternity dress for a pregnant bridesmaid?

I just sent off an invitation to ask my far away best friend to be one of my bridesmaids. I am aware, however, that she is trying to have another baby soon. I am looking for a possible dress that ALL of my bridesmaids could wear - and that she will fit into if she's pregnant. Anything loose & flowy that isn't a maternity dress per se.

Suggestions?

"So what? So it's not going to be easy. It's gonna be hard.
Really hard. But I wanna do that because I want you
- all of you, you and me, every day. Forever."

Re: Non-Maternity dress for a pregnant bridesmaid?

  • If you go with something with an empire waist with a looser type skirt as you suggested, she should be fine.  If she will be pregnant at the time of your wedding they can work with her to make sure they order the right size and fit her properly.
Whoever said it was supposed to be happily ever after is a big fat liar.
  • Yeah she said they want to start trying in August, which would make her eight months along at my wedding which I'm sure would be hell - either she'll be unable to fly, way too uncomfortable to stand up there, or not able to come at all. So I'm hoping the invitation will sway here to either hurry it up and be the beautiful mommy of TWO, or delay it and just be not as preggo the day of.

Hurry it up?!?!  You know most people can't snap their fingers and get pregnant right?  You sound like a snot.

  • No I'm only saying it that way because, when they were trying to conceive their first baby, it literally took like, a week! I want nothing but happiness for her - and it would mean the world to me to also have her by my side on the happiest day of my life. She can do exactly as she wants, I just would love to have it be a win-win. :)

A baby trumps a wedding!  Always!  Why should she put off a huge life event for you?????
  • Why does it have to be baby or wedding though? There are other modes of transportation other than flying. She can do both.  In fact, I believe it has been done before.

But you know her better than we do.  Why not try asking her H to keep it in his pants for the next 8 months? Just remember to be polite when asking.

That doesn't mean the second one will be as easy.

  • Getting back to your original question, I was in the same situation. Most BM dress manufacturers have non-maternity styles that work well for both. Bari Jay, for example, has little notations for non-maternity dresses that can work for a pregnant BM. As PP said, most of the styles are loose and flowy. That's what we went with too. Good luck to you and your friend!

  • Thank you! UPDATE: She said yes, and I told her she can do whatever she wants regarding the baby - the more the merrier! She said that even if she's too pregnant to fly, she'll just drive and her and her hubby will make a road trip of it.
