Inner envelope help!

Hey ladies! I know we're all in invite mode so here's the latest thought/question.

On the inner envelope, do I need to use more formal language, like the outer? For example: Do I have to write Mr. and Mrs. John Smith or can I just write John and Sue Smith? Just something I thought about tonight.....

Re: Inner envelope help!

  • all the information I found showed both options either really formal and just first names or Mr & Mrs Smith without the first name.  It started not to make a whole lot of sense to me so I just said f* it, and just followed one of the directions as best as possible and hope people won't be too critical if it's wrong

  • For people that we didnt really know, aka our parents guest, i was more formal so they would know who was invited bc i didnt indicate that specifically on the RSVP cards

but for my parents i wrote:
    Mom & Dad
for my Grandma who i call Nonnina (italian term for grandma) i wrote:
    Nonnina Maria

or for friends im close with i did nicknames or shortened names like:
    Mattie & Janine
    or
    Mike & Kim
    or
    Mikey & Guest

HTH! i think you can do what you want with the inner envelope, its there to indicate who specifically is invited from the outer envelope...i wouldnt stress over it...
  • My outers will say:

    Mr. and Mrs. John Smith

    While my inners say:

    Mr. and Mrs. Smith
  • I am not using inners. I am of no help.

  • For our inner envelopes we did:

Mr. and Mrs. Smith for those that needed to be more formal

John and Jane for our friends that could be more casual

There's a page on The Knot that talks about this...it's under the invitations section.

  • Thanks ladies! I would definitely feel silly sending my BMs an inner that says Ms. Smith. But for more fomal people/parent's friends I can understand that.
