My Fiance (!!) and I have been together 3 years so I knew this was coming but I wasn't sure when. He moved to Boston to be with me while I go through law school and I'm a first year law student about to head into finals so apparently he picked out the time so it wasn't so close to finals that we couldn't spend time together yet I could still show the ring to my law school friends and celebrate with them. One of my best friends' weddings was last week so he also didn't want to do it before her wedding because he didn't want anyone to feel like we were stealing her thunder!
On Thursday he came to meet me after my practice oral arguments finished up at 7:30. We had made plans to grab dinner then head to a law school social event at 10 PM.He came up to my classroom and was kind of quiet and anxious--I figured he just hates waiting and since it was so late that he was hungry (cranky). So he stands there while I talk to my moot court partner and I can tell he feels weird so I hurry up so we can leave. My friends had headed to the Pub to grab some drinks after class so I asked him if he was hungry and he said no and theat yeah--we'd go meet with my friends but he wanted to take a walk by the river because he felt cooped up (works from home) and never gets to see the river. So we were just walking along and I spotted a gigantic, beautiful cherry blossom tree in bloom (we're from DC) so I stopped and was like, holy crap look at that tree. So he went over and stood under it (in hindsight, he was totally standing there so I'd go stand with him) but in stead I just stood in the path and was like oooo! I'm gonna take a picture of you! He got me under the tree by then suggesting he take a picture of me.The next thing I knew, he was under the tree with me, hugging me really forcefully and tell me how happy he was with me and then BAM it happened! I was so taken by surprise that I just sat there half shaking/half crying, jaw agape, staring at him and saying nothing. Finally he was like "Yes???" at which point I snapped out of it, said yes and looked at the ring and was SHOCKED by what I found. The ring is QUITE LITERALLY exactly what I wanted. A few weeks prior I had been bored in class and perusing the internet for engagement rings and found this exact ring and freaked out about how perfect it was. So I forwarded a link to it to his friend in DC who I had a feeling was helping him pick out rings. Turns out...by the time she was like, hey she really likes this, he had already bought the ring and it just so happened to be that exact one.For your viewing pleasure here's a close up from the internet.http://img1.etsystatic.com/il_fullxfull.233316717.jpgI'm totally in love with the ring and with the whole night. After the proposal he took me out for an AWESOME dinner at the W Hotel where he had made some phone calls to a manager there so they had champagne waiting for us, and gave us all kinds of special attention. It was a wonderful dinner (I mean, come on, on our first three dates, all me talked about was food--in his words, our engagement wouldnt be complete without a good meal). It was private, quiet but not stuffy and just super happy.
After that we went to the Law School social event and announced it to all my law school friends and it was just wonderful!
